Belmont getting smacked around
They were "the" upset pick of alot of people. right now it is looking bad. 20 points in a half? Thats is only 3 more then ETSU managed against Arizona.
2/13 from three point range. They are only down by 12, very possible if they start hitting shots to get back in it, we shall see.

RE: Belmont getting smacked around
Arizona just looks to big, to strong and way to athletic for Belemont ATM.

Arizona just has too much length and athleticism. I remember when Belmont played Wisconsin a few years ago people were saying the same thing (about Belmont getting the upset). Like in that game, these Arizona guys are just so long and athletic AND they're well coached.

Loving the beat down. Belmont's style of play usually dominates other mid major programs, but it never seems to translate against bigger athletic teams. Their performance in the past two years in the NCAA tourney has been disappointing

They almost beat Duke in 2008 as a 15 seed. But duke was more belmonts style of play than Arizona/Wisconsin

Do you all remember if we recruited Belmont's Jenkins? He's a Knoxville kid and I don't remember his name associated with us.

I thought Belmont might be due a win, but they didn't come out strong enough and lacked the precision necessary to overcome their size/athleticism disadvantage. They looked desperate.

Both sets of Rams won tonight.
The ones from Virginia beat the (depleted) Zips like rented Buccaneers...........lol

I also had New Mexico, but only going to the Elite 8. Historically, the two teams in the NCAAs that have *always* disappointed me (i.e., wrecked my brackets) more than any others are New Mexico and Miss. St.
I like Albuquerque, but I never thought Steve Alford was very bright. And like another knight asst. very near and dear to our hearts, he completely failed to adapt tonight. Another example of the bobby knight curse.

RE: Belmont getting smacked around
The Belmont game was a fairly simple analysis- they couldnt hit a shot. They hit those three point shots all season, but not in the Tournament game. If they had hit those shots, they would have beaten Arizona. They played almost as poorly in the OVC championship game, but Murray State just wasn't good enough to take advantage of the missed shots like Arizona was.

Bottom line, it has nothing to do with their style of play. They, like every mid major except Gonzaga, do not have the size that BCS conferences do, and it all comes down to how hot they are from the three point shot.

As brilliant as Rick Byrd is, he had no answers for Zona's thoroughbreds.

Ian Clark and Kerron Johnson are terrific players and developed nicely during their time at Belmont (The importance of player development). I'll be interested to see how Belmont does next year after losing these two core guys to graduation. Belmont will always have skill guys, but Clark and Johnson were unusually athletic for Belmont players--a tribute to Rick Byrd raising his team's recruiting profile.

I saw an Arizona defense that shut them down, not many 3 point opportunities, and when they took that shot, an Arizona player was mostly in their face. Don't believe they had seen that kind of quick, aggressive defense very much this season.

Belmont had an exciting game against Duke a few years back, but other than that they have been nothing special in their NCAA trips.
Not sure how they got an 11 seed to me. They do a fine job whipping their conference competition year in and out , but is their OOC resume all that impressive ?
Compare this 11th seeded team to some of our Mister era teams.

I agree with most of this. I'm not sure they would have ended up winning over AZ, but it would sure have put the issue in doubt.
I also disagree about playing poorly in the OVC Championship game. I thought both teams played terrifically that game, for the most part. (Not necessarily the same as having good shooting percentages. shooting percentages.) That was a very intense game
