In regards to Miami's natural rivalries--"Natural Rivals: already Cincinnati (Louisville, Pittsburgh, West Virginia)"
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
MIAMI VS.
CINCINNATI 59-44-7 last played 2005
LOUISVILLE 1-0 last played 2003
PITT 0-2 LAST PLAYED 1949
WVU 0-1-1 LAST PLAYED 1999

I may be defining natural rivalries a bit differently than you. In my estimation, Cincinnati is Miami's only BE rivalry. The other 3 are not.

vs.
UCONN O
SYR 0-2 (1987)
USF 0
RUTGERS 0

Taking Cincinnati out of the equation, Miami has played the other 7 BE FB teams a total of (DRUM ROLL PLEASE) seven times since 1888-- that's a grand total of 7 games in 118 years. At least we have a history to build on!

They would be a great get for C-USA though.

Miami has NO interest in C-DOA.

The feeling is mutual.

Jim, I don't think you will get much support for your argument when you bring facts to the table. Shame on you! ;-)

Miami is to close to Cincinnati and will never be allowed to enter the BE. Miami of Ohio shares the same TV markets Cincinnati and Dayton. the BE wants new areas. this can also be said of Marshall. It is to close to WVU

Oxford is what... 30 miles out Colerain Avenue? US27. 45 miles tops. They get no TV coverage in Cincy. 1360 Homer covers their basketball and football games on radio.

Miami's a fine school, but it is too close to Cincy. Of the two schools, Cincy has more potential.

As for spending, you have to start spending before you get in. You won't get in with promises to spend more if you give more money. Louisville and UC increased spending before there was any talk about the Big East.

Miami is spending money on facilities. We renovated our football stadium, we are building a indoor practice facility, we have built a new athletics center, we have built a new baseball stadium, we are building a new softball stadium, and we are finishing building a great new hockey rink (#3 in the nation BTW). So I think the spending is happening. It may not show up in the athletic budget as it is part of the "for love and honor" capital campaign.

I don't know that I agree on the potential comment. UC is a fine school. They get alot of local attention for Football and they still can't seem to draw fans. Miami has had more recent success by far than UC in football (which is what we are talking about here...an additional football school). Miami has finished in the top 11. When is the last time UC did that. Comparing the football programs Miami has just as much (if not more) potential as UC.

I'm sure Miami University is a fine institution. At this time, however, The Big East has a presence in the Southern Ohio Market with UC. Lets give the Bearcats an opportunity to recruit with the BCS label a few years before placing a league challenger just down the street. If MU wants to move up, they should petition CUSA for admittance after the Big East splits.

sorry old pal. the boat has left the dock, and you guys aren't on it.

there is no way. you'll sooner be invited to join the big 10 than to join the big east.

You guys still couldn't sell out your stadium when you had a first round pick at QB and a top 15 team... what makes you think you will ever draw good enough to be in a BCS league? Hell, 2 years ago I almost went down to a Miami game just because you weren't going to hit the 15,000 person average that the NCAA had mandated for D1A. The game ended up being on election day, though, so I passed on going (I would have brought about 10 people, I didn't want to see you guys drop down to D1AA). The NCAA has since dropped the attendance requirement. Miami didn't hit their 15,000 average either, if I remember correctly.

I'm sorry, I like Miami and think they have a great football program, but the support is definitely not there for football or basketball. I'm not sure what you draw for hockey, but the Big East does not have Hockey as a sport so it is not of interest.

UC five bowls in 7 years is about the same as Miami but in better competition. This is not even a consideration for the Big East. UCF, MEMPHIS, ECU, Navy would be way ahead of Miami. Attendance at UC will explode in the next several years. Home games on our schedule totally out class Miami. Home dates with Ohio St. Georgia at PBS will draw 65,000. HOme dates with NC St. Va Tech, UL, WVU, Pitt will increase UC attendance for years to come. Miami is a great place and every decade they have a super athelete come along, Ron Harper, Wally Z. Big Ben
but its not the same level on a yearly basis as Big East schools. Miami does not even get carried by a local TV station. Its just not in the media center like this conference enjoys ot THE State school like WVU, Syracuse, Rutgers or UCONN or large city like UL, UC, Pitt, USF etc. Miami is perfect for the MAC where they can be a big dog.

Agreed that MU replicates a media market, Toldeo is the only MAC team with any outside chance at the BE at this point in time. BTW no one currently in the MAC is going to Jump to CUSA. Lateral move and they lose traditional rivals, plus greater travel costs.

And that outside chance is like Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber, it's 1 in a million.

I believe Toledo is about to lose a half dozen or so FB schollies.

I think it's very telling that when the BE FB AD's met to discuss the split, they mentioned 12 possible schools. Not one of them is in the MAC, although I understand Temple soon will be.

I wish some hackers would invent a computer virus that could infect this pathetic thread and put it out of its misery already.
