NIU sees record freshman applications
I know they have been pushing harder on the student recruiting side of things, which is awesome, but how can they fail to mention the assumed bump from the Orange Bowl? A surge in applications was reported in the Trib. right after the O.B....

lol insane article, the Orange Bowl is undoubtedly the almost sole reason for the bump up.

Yes, the Orange Bowl has been a major factor. I believe that the huge (long overdue) improvements in student housing can't be hurting either.

It's possible that NIU might be in for a good couple of years with the rise in freshman applications, able to be a bit more selective when lots of people wanna go to school here.

+If we can improve our average scores along with Honors student numbers.

The OB along with the new hall and Gilbert should help attract some of the suburban kids who would have typically not even considered NIU.

Especially if OB is the reason for the bump, not just more freshmen, more freshmen who like football!

You are right. More applications will give us better students. Better students will raise the bar for NIU. Better students will help slow the drop out rate after the first year. There are so many reasons to have better students. Thank you football.

Let's hope the new President values athletics as much as Dr. Peters does.
