Navy to retain rights to home games through 2017
Found this in the MWC forum.

According to CBS

Navy woul keep all the Money from Games against ND and Army. SO what's the advantage for the Metro?League to invite Navy at all.

RE: Navy to retain rights to home games through 2017
The thru 2017 is just the remainder of their current deal. The benefit of getting navy is 2 things-
1- road games vs BE teams.
2- big one- help getting better bowl games with the Navy name.

oh and just in the 1st tv deal, Navy would be all in the last 2 seasons.

What this guy said and then some of my own points:

3- They likely take little to no money from the NBE tv deal with no home rights in the game. Navy's distribution would likely be from bowls, playoff shares, etc...

4- Navy helps with bowls and tv audience.

It's only for two years. Boise wanted that deal for at least the length of that TV contract.

The Army and ND games essentially fund Navy's athletic program. Why would they give that money up?

omg, that's just awful if we are expecting navy (with their decades long losing streak to notre dame in their recent "success" file) to add football "street cred" to the new league. ridiculous! what are they - like 1-70 vs notre dame since they were last a national power? they are a perrenial 7-4, 6-5 5-6, 4-7 program whose wins mostly come from cupcakes (army included). yes, a few of their games are high profile (army, notre dame ... and air force to a lesser extent) but they aren't a successful program for most of their history.

we'll have street cred in basketball - with memphis, temple, cincinnati and connecticut; but in football, we'll be largely ignorable.

Yet, others scoff at the notion Navy's "street cred" would add value to the ACC (not you KT) -- complete hokum.

They won like 3 straight against the Irish before losing in Ireland this year.

and lost how many in a row just before that? I don't know how many off the top of my head (because it's a meaningless series) - but I know it is a record number of consecutive losses to the same opponent. navy is notre dame's cupcake game. how can that be what a conference gains credibility from?

I just looked it up. navy is 12-71-1 vs notre dame - with a run of 43 consecutive losses - and its never even been played @ navy - all @ notre dame or nuetral sites. wow, that's just screams street cred!

Not quite true (almost, though):

Navy lost to ND in 2011 in South Bend. The score was 56-14.

Navy lost to ND in 2012 in Dublin, Ireland. The score was 50-10.

The last two games have not been competitive, at all.

Navy won two in a row against Charlie Weis' 2009 and Brian Kelly's 2010 ND teams.

Navy has gone 3-3 against ND in the last six games. Not bad considering that they had lost 43 straight games to ND. (1963-2007).

ND leads the series 73-12-1.

How would have mighty Memphis fine against the Irish in that span?

Navy is a national name. They play hard and are competitive in national games. What else do you want? The steelers if the 70's?
