Brett McMurphy tweeted the following two items from Aresco that I assume came from todays conference call with the press. Sounds like the name is not going to happen in "a couple of weeks" like we had heard. The time line has been pushed back enough that theres a chance we will be the "unnamed conference" until close to summer. Also, selling the conference naming rights is not going to happen.

Not having the name in mind when they sold off the Big East is bad enough. It would be a real blunder as well not to have it for the NCAA tournament.

Thank goodness for that.

They have a name for this NCAA Tournament... ALL schools are members of the Aresco controlled BIG EAST until June 30th, 2013. As long as the conference has a name for July 1st, then it's not nameless. The Catholic 7 can say anything they want, make any future plans, etc... but the name isn't theirs until after June 30th, when they officially leave for their new conference for July 1st.

actually the BE name does belong to the c7 now and after june 30th

Exactly. And whenever the commentators talk about Louisville, Cincy, Memphis, or Temple, they'll be sure to rip the fact that the conference has no name.

You can listen to the Conf call on the BE web site. They have it saved.

It's going to look really bad when the football preview rags come out and the conference has no name.

Seems like a little over-sensitivity there on your part. They'll mention it probably. I doubt that they will "rip" it for not having a name. Th fact that they mention that the conference hasn't been named yet by be embarrassing to you but that doesn't mean the announcers are ripping it.

This conference has always been slow in making announcements, at least the whole time Louisville has been in the league. Be it schedules, conference names, etc, they always wait till the last minute.

Maybe, but the commentary thus far in the last two weeks certainly hasn't been very nonchalant about it. Most have taken to inserting their own snarky name to the group. I doubt that trend subsides much.

I understand not having a name chosen when the C7 decided to leave. That happened in a week's time (when everyone thought they'd have at least a year) and they needed time to work out the particulars of the departures...but come on, three months is taking a bit too long for something so simple.

Actually the name is theirs. The C7 are all members of the Big East for now and forever after.

Actually the name is theirs. The C7 are all members of the Big East for now and forever after.

The C7 are now on FOX and will have their own issues to struggle against as the new (old) Big East.

Judging by the most recent BET, I'm sure the popular narrative will be entertaining to us all. I may even keep my name for sh!ts and g!ggles.
