A stockmarket transaction tax would be a better way to do it. Or prosecuting and confiscating the property and $ of jags like jamie diamond who caused the 08 fiscal crash would be better way of recouping taxpayers $. But of course the big banks and brokerage houses are "too big to fail" we can't prosecute them.

taxing the money that sits in the account? a couple of questions should be asked...

1. was this money previously taxed as income?
2. are they taxing interest or principle?

i don't really understand this situation.....

its appalling if they are double taxing the money from income tax and then just taxing the principle sitting in the account on top of that. if the money has not been taxed as income tax, then i probably would not see an issue with it.

Cyprus is a tax haven for foreign money, especially Russian oligarchs. Haven't heard if they already pulled their money out or if it is still there.

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You really would not see a problem with that? The government making withdrawals out of your account? I do not know which smilie would be more appropriate. 01-wingedeagle 04-jawdrop

of course i would RATHER not get money taxed....but if the money has never been taxed yet, do you really think that will fly? like i said, i did not really understand the situation? is it really the gov't literally withdrawing the money? or do they send a tax bill on the money in your account?
