Jim Valvano ESPN movie
*sigh*

Good stuff- very emotional at the end.

Memphis State mentioned a few times- Houston game in Sweet 16 (yes- the dunk).

Crying like a baby at the end.

I really hate that I missed it because of traveling today. Hopefully they show it sometime next week when there aren't any tournament games on.

I still consider him the best college coach ever and one of my all-time heros. His motivational skills are to this day unmatched and he practiced them to the end. The world is a much better place because this giant of a man occupied it for far-too-short of a time.

I was blubbering at the end too. It's amazing that everyone is still so emotional, after all these years. He really touched the lives of many in a special way.

RE: Jim Valvano ESPN movie
I saw him speak at a AutoZone managers' conference in '86 at the convention center. He was very entertaining, was all over the stage. After the speech, we were getting the out of towners to the right section of the center for lunch. Someone yelled, "Jim Valvano's out here!" He talked to about six of us, right in the middle of Front St. One asked to see his championship ring. Jim took it off and put it in his hand, I thought the guy was going to drop it in shock.

At that first ESPY show, you saw a different side of Dick Vitale. He was so subdued and sad, introducing his dying friend. As Jim spoke, DIck was behind him to the right, crying.

His speech and story is still very moving, 30 years later.

It was very well done. Extremely touching and thought provoking. High quality even for the non-sports enthusiast.
