No Texas teams got into the NCAA tournament for the first time since the 1970's. Texas, despite a losing 16-17 record, accepted a bid to play in the CIT. And more surprising to me, they actually accepted a game on the road at UH. It's good for Houston - especially if they win. I really don't expect many UT fans there though - they didn't draw much at Reliant earlier this year for UCLA.

We've been waiting for something like this for a very long time.

Its still good for UH - they win and they register a win over the mighty Texas (regardless how good/bad Texas actually is)

How little would it have taken for Rice actually to be THE basketball team in Texas this year? To FBO's post about focusing on basketball instead of football, we could have been the program in the state this year.

There was a time when Drexler was a player instead of a coach and the Cougars were in the NCAA title game instead of some minor tournament.

No doubt this is good news for any program scrounging from the depths of sustained less than-mediocre-seasons stacked on each other for many years. If you'd told me at the end of last season that this was Rice's destiny for the end of this season, I'd have been greatly disappointed. And yet, ...
