Tulsa (the city)
I am sending this from a hotel lobby in Tulsa, about 2 hours before the Memphis-USM C-USA basketball championship game at 10:30. Although Tulsa is only 400 miles west of Memphis, this is the first time I have been here. I thought some of you might be interested to know what it is like - well, I will definitely be BACK! It's much nicer and interesting than I ever imagined. Slightly smaller than Memphis, downtown looks prosperous and has beautiful architechture, a good blend of old and new with a distinctive atmosphere. Plenty of good restaurants, bars, nightspots, art districts, etc.. If/when Tulsa is added to our new conference, we will certainly be gaining a nice travel destination.

Thanks for the kind words

I hope your staying at the mayo. If you aren't stay there next time.

Tulsa is a great city. I grew up there and go back for most of the home games.

I've seen so many ridiculous shows at Cains and the Brady.

RE: Tulsa (the city)
I travel about 30 weeks a year on business and I am usually in Tulsa 2 or 3 times a year. It is one of my favorite trips each year, along with the Phoenix, Dallas, and Denver metro areas. With my job I can live just about anywhere I would like and my wife and I have looked into real estate and schools in Tulsa and Scottsdale but we just can not bring ourselves to leave the coast of North Carolina but if we did it would be Tulsa or the Phoenix metro area.

Tulsa is indeed a pretty cool city.

If you're into pawn-shopping and thrift-store hunting and antique-shopping, it's a great (not good) place to do that.

I've lived in Central Florida for over 17 years now, but was born/raised in Tulsa. I still get back there several times a year. I've always been proud to be a native Tulsan, and Okie. The museums and philharmonic are world class. Brookside is full of very cool and eclectic bars/restaurants. I haven't been to the BOK Center yet, but I've seen pictures, and it looks great. Would love to have the Golden Hurricane in this new conference.

I haven't been to Tulsa, but I have heard plenty of great things. Perhaps my next long weekend?

Thanks for the kind words! I love visiting new places but Tulsa always has my heart to come home.

The downtown development the last few years has been incredible. Used to be down there maybe once every 2-3 months, now it's weekly. Always something different to do. Love local entrepreneurship.

Eat at Hank's Hamburgers, it's near the airport.

Damn good double cheese burger, fries and a bucket of milk shake.

I also want to catch a Driller's game at the new downtown stadium. If its anything like OKC's minor league park, it's probably pretty nice.

I visited Tulsa once and was impressed with the place. It has to be once of the cleanest cities of 500,000+ in population I have ever seen.

I want to retire in a place a little north of here (with cooler weather than Dallas). I'm going to look at western Arkansas or the Tulsa area.

RE: Tulsa (the city)
Its not much cooler man.

Summers are brutal. At least its reasonably dry in Dallas.

Eastern Oklahoma is the ****. Little Dixie, Broken Bow, Lower Mtn Fork, Quichita Mtns, Illinois River, Metalaqua, Roxies Roost...I could go on forever. I like hitting up Robbers Cave State Park to Mtn Bike and trout fish before TU games. I get a kick out of rolling into the mayo with dirt all over me, a backpack dirty camping coolers, and a mtn bike. Im stoked for Fall

I like it up there but I dont know if I could live there again. Dallas is a pretty nice city and I can be to the beach in four hours, the hill country in three, houston in three and mexico in two to three from DFW. Five hours to Central America, Six to Barbados. Three hours to NYC. 2 hours to Charleston.

I live five blocks from my office in Lakewood so I stay in my little bubble of awesome in East Dallas.

Good thread, GA, thanks for sharing... Never been, but the more I read up the more I'm impressed with TU. Everyone seems to really like the city and the university.

Hope Tulsa will join and USM will not be far behind. I know this will be a tough year for ECU and Tulne in Cusa as far as disrespect towards us from all the other schools and its posters (especially Marshall) . The sad part is any one of those schools left behind would join nBE if given the chance (Marshall would be my third choice, too).

Not to mention TU's campus is really nice. All the buildings have that "old style" stone architecture (I don't know what you call it) but it looks really nice. I finally made it up there for the CUSA championship game in December, and came away impressed. I think Tulsa could really take off if the community would really get behind that program.
