MyBB My thoughts on UofM conf affiliation (naysayers beware)
The University of Memphis is completely & T totally 100% idiotic retarded & stupid if they really did turn down the opportunity to play in a premiere basketball league with the likes of Georgetown, Villanova, Marquette, St Johns, Providence, Xavier, Butler and showcase the heart & soul if its athletic program year in & year out in the worlds most famous arena in the worlds most famous city. To stay with the types of schools & same type of conference that yields a team as the host city and cant even fill its lower bowl with the help of tiger fans driving 100's of miles away. But instead opt to remain with the same group of schools that has held them back for decades while others have passed us by. All in the name of a football program that has never been successful. Only to be blinded by the years of Deangelo & a powder puff schedule.

But hey, staying in a football league will get us more money...oh wait, ah shizzle, there goes that argument. If Bowen doesn't recant and go back & beg to be in the BigEast our boosters should fire his ass as fast as they hired him.

Go ahead football lovers. Pour your tar & feathers. Give me negative rep points. I don't give a shizzle. I love me some Tiger basketball, & the longer our asinine loser football program holds us back I will eventually grow to hate it. Today will be a national embarrassment for CUSA as CBS tries to hide an empty arena. We are about to join a league that us considering this same host city as a top candidate for expansion. How can all Tiger fans, boosters & administrators not see the clear freaking answer. I swear we are the Cubs of college basketball with our own historical stupidity. I literally feel like I'm in a twilight zone having to make these basic common sense points.

But I guess I'm stupid because I don't see the importance of a blood sucking football program. Somewhere along the line I must have missed when our football program proved it could win year in & year out in a mid major conference let alone in a BCS league. So hey, let's keep the football program going. Screw the program that has brought pride & joy to a city for 3/4 of a century now.

I would submit that you need to go back and look at the 60s and 70s and come back and say football hasn't been successful.

Unfortunately thinking like yours is why, once again, we are watching Louisville's (a former peer) taillights disappearing into the distance. They used to be on our level and then, guess what, decided to focus on football.

Joining the Catholic 12 would ultimately kill our athletic program. I suggest you get off your ass and support Memphis football as much as you do Memphis basketball. If more people did this we'd be in a bigger league already.

RE: My thoughts on UofM conf affiliation (naysayers beware)
our league may have negotiated a low payout for tv revenue this time around.
Basically it is starting over.
However, we have 4 teams...Memphis,UConn,Temple, and Cincy.
If those 4 teams do well year in and year out...and the new league can get part of 3-4 teams into bowl games..we wil make considerably more money in renegotiations than what the Big East will get from Fox when it comes time to renegotiate our contract.
The TBD conference we are part of will be shown on ESPN...and that exposure will be invaluable to recruiting efforts for the Tiger's football team moving forward.
Book it.

Only a completely & T totally 100% idiotic retarded & stupid fan would want to split conferences which has shown over and over again to be difficult at best to do. One program usually suffers.

Go cry me a river.

I've spent my years pouring money into Memphis football tickets & I've seen first hand how 95% of Tiger fans are not Tiger football fans. From 75% empty games, to Season ticket holders changing to orange every other year to $5 Kroger tickets not selling out a game. I've never changed my colors & I think not many on this board can stack the amount of tires they've burned against mine with how much I've traveled for basketball & football. Don't question someones commitment that you don't know. I just happen to be aware of what's happening.

It makes no difference if I know you or not. I can read. So, you're saying you still support Tiger football, which falls under the definition of "anytang Memphis?"

You are seriously going to point out a season or two from 50-60 years ago? Also, I believe the SEC has squished the possibility of anything like that happening ever again. We can't even beat Ark st or midd tenn in football. But we want to put our basketball program on the alter for sacrifice so we can continue to play Tulane, USF, ECU, SMU, Houston??? I've got a question that should be easy to answer based off the last 20 years. How's that working out for ya?

It makes a lot of difference if you know someone. You seem like a real tuff guy on here with your mirads of posts and apparently a lot of time but hey, I can't say for sure, I don't really know you. But I made a point in my OP, if the university continues to let kill what is the pride of Anytang Memphis, yes, I will hate it. Don't wrest words with me. You have thousands upon thousands of posts for me to go back and prove your inaccuracies that you've presented to Tiger fans. About yourself, about what you've said would happen, about your valid "sources". And I could cloud the first five pages with your bravado.

Season or two? Between 1960-1977 we AVERAGED 7 wins per season. 17 seasons is more than a season or two.

You mean Temple who is considering dropping football? Or Cincy & UCONN who have proven their loyalty by selling out what little was left of a name & are currently pandering to exit the nearest fire escape?

Wow, 7 wins per seasons. I recant. Let me retract all that I said. I mean, those were mostly off the cuff statements anyways.

Great point, only Memphis isn't pouring money into football. You think a new practice facility or Tiger lane or a jumbo tron means we've arrived. Dude, I live 5 miles from a high school that puts more money into football (Allen, tx) than Memphis does. The funny thing is that Memphis says they want to be "bCS". So they sacrifice basketball for football and place us in mid major football leagues. But then never invest in football. Dude, BCS schools have 4 jumbo Trons, multiple facilities, invest $millions per month, not year. That ship has sailed tiger fans. It ain't coming back. But there's a docked ship waiting for basketball right now, & we are literally letting it sail away.

So we should sacrifice a 100 year tradition for a couple million bucks? Especially when the devaluing of our program that dropping football would cause us will basically eliminate us from any future conference improvement?

Don't play that "pick a fight" card with me. I go long periods on this board while I don't post or even sign in. I just read. And I sit back and watch you and about 20 other bullies on this board pick fights with, make fun of, ridicule, and belittle the simplest posts from the most committed of Tiger fans who get on here & just try to make points or conversation with fellow tiger fans. So don't play righteous when you know dam well what you & some of the most frequent posters do on here.
