So much for the OLine...[being at full strength]
Just informed that Parker Ehinger is out for the season with a Torn ACL. I know the board rules on injuries, and I do not make a habit of breaking rules, butI figured given the time of year and the gravity of the news that it was reasonable to post.

Awful to hear.

Let's see if a guy like Kevin Schloemer can step up. I was really excited when we landed him. Thought he could be a stalwart on the o-line for many year.

He already used his red shirt. Think there's a chance he can get an extra year ala Brendon Kay?

If he was redshirted to due injury but I don't believe he was.

Park took an optional redshirt, and this is his first injury, I doubt it. Brendon had his optional redshirt and lost two years to different injuries, different situations, but you never know with the NCAA.

My memory from 6 years ago is a bit fuzzy, but I'm pretty sure Kay redshirted then tore his ACL in practice that year, and tore his ACL in his opposite knee two years later. That technically was an optional redshirt in 2007 that they retroactively made a medical redshirt when they requested a 6th year.

I know it is from ehow :

Quote:A player that has taken an earlier redshirt by choice can still apply for a medical redshirt

http://www.ehow.com/info_8364227_redshirt-player.html

I will go to the NCAA website to find out more info.

In all honesty, the timing of the injury may help him out with it.

I thought the one "voluntary", one medical redshirt thing is what killed Ben Mauk's case?

That was a similar situation to what had happened to Brendon Kay, but they never had enough evidence to change that "voluntary" redshirt into a medical redshirt in his freshman year at Wake Forest. And yes, this situation figures to turn out much more like Ben's than Brendon's.

RE: So much for the OLine...
BTW, the thread title is very misleading. Losing one guy on the line when we were returning 9 of 10 from the 2 deep is hardly a huge hit.

It's probably a bit overstated but losing a guy who was a freshman all american last year is a little bigger than just only returning 8 of our top 10 from last year.

The biggest thing we were looking forward to was having a full position group back that performed incredibly well the previous season for the first time since any of us could remember. It is a bit over dramatic, but I had just walked out of the training room with him being carried in by two trainers...so I may have overreacted a bit.

The Oline is still looking very good, but it definitely hurts a bit to lose someone during such a routine drill on a freak accident who looks like he can become a VERY special player here this early on in the season, even moreso when its the only position that has a major question mark at backup

Thank you!

Geeeez! 4 returning starters out of 5 on an OLine is absolutely AWESOME most years. Only with the bombastic UC board do we get "So much for the OLine" when we lose a single guy. Like, really?!? Really?!?

We have the entire summer to work on a substitute. This. Is. Football. **** happens. That's why you have depth.

GAME OVER!
