Do you think we will lose any rising underclassmen players between this season and next (transfers/ quitters)? Who would be the most likely to leave in either category?

Yes and no. We lost some games by a lot of points this year that turned on one or two possessions that touched off mega-runs.

We lost some games last year by many fewer points, but were clearly not likely to win with the Davis offensive philosophy of pass it around the perimeter for 32 seconds, then toss it to the second Golden Girl on the right.

Or, if you prefer, we had a better chance to turn around some of these blowout losses this year than to win some of the "closer" games last year.

Losing 47 to 54 or losing 66 to 80, both still feel like a blowout.

YES

So glad you said it first. I was going to wait a few days but the fact is this might be the least athletic team ive seen us put on a court. Rod is the only player on this team that should see 10min+ a game next year. On a real good team Swing would have a limited role. Good kid im sure but cant defend, cant rebound and will always have trouble against quick defenders. He should spend the next several weeks in a weight room. We havent had a point guard since AJ. Our record last year and this year shows clearly that we must improve talent levels and not simply expect this class to appear much better next year. I said the same thing before the season started when most on here were predicting an NCAA or NIT trip. I said we probably wouldnt be any better than last year. Btw The Answer basically said the same. I HATE back to back losing seasons. But i am more optimistic with Haase. Davis had better players his first year and blamed lack of talent whereas Haase kept his mouth shut and went out and recruited.

I have been saying all along at least two possible three of the new commers will be starting next season. PG and C are a given.

47-54 was only going to be fixed by the act Brian Mackin took at the end of the season. 66-80 can be repaired.

A freshman would have to be really good to move out Q. That said, I'd not be surprised to see only Rucker out there for the opening tap.

I think Taylor, Swing & Rucker will all start. Maybe Purifoy too. Put Washington with that group and they will be tough to beat. The new kids will get 40-45% of the PT with Foz and Williams helping anchoring them. Menhinti needs a year in the weight room. If Haase & Eshan can secure the Freeman kid from D.C. to go with this group, 2014 will be special. And then we will have to find a way to get Haase & Co. paid or else we are coach hunting again.

RE: Let's Go Blazers! Game 2
Remember Rod is a wing, not a 4 or a 5, Swing is a wing, Whitaker is a wing/2 ,Purifoy is a wing, Williams is a 2/wing, Q is a 1, Hoppy is a 2, and Faz 3 or 4, not a 5..

Every wing we had this year were forced to play the 3 and 4 positions, making for good and bad mismatches depending on the skill level of the 3/4 being guarded.

The incoming class has a 1, 2, 3, and 4/ a 5 in it....Good job recruiting...

Swing, Williams, Whitaker, Purfoy, Rod, Faz and Q are going to be hugh next year for us...

Hoppy may or not be back, but if he does come back, he will have to play the 2 and I didnt see that skill this year..

We will have a team with a good rotation at every position...

I expect,Swing, Rod, Q to be penciled in as starters, based on being the best at their positions, with Faz, Robert, PP and Whitaker. PLAYING BIG MINUTES.

We will have a complete team next year with many parts, it will be experiences, and more athletic, it will be an improved team with many options at every position.

The staff did a good job in recruiting and I hope we continue to recruit players for every positions and not be forced to have 2/wings guarding the big 3 or 4/5 position.

RE: Let's Go Blazers! Game 2
Well my after game thoughts - Watkins killed us in the first, Davis in the 2nd & we didn't really get into any flow. If we had an AJ or Squeaky type on the court, our season would've been much better but no one really stepped into that role in play or leadership for us. It was a long season that went better than we thought it would be in the early part of the season but the season went about as we expected it to be maybe slightly better. We've got just about every contributor coming back w/ a class that will bolster that so things look fairly well for next year in a conference that there's probably not going to be 1 dominant team head & shoulders above anyone else as Memphis has these past seasons.

I expect the bench to get a fair amount of rotation next year.

RE: Let's Go Blazers! Game 2
Here is my opinion.

I think we start the season with the guys we have now. We have North Carolina, Rutgers and other tough games early in the season, and new D1 players won't be seasoned enough to play lots of minutes.

I think our starters will be, Swing, Q, Williams, Faz and Rucker. As the season progresses, the recruits will take more minutes, and by the end of the season, only Rucker and Williams will be starters. Rucker because of how hard he plays, Williams because of his defense. Swing will be first off the bench.

Swing will start for this team, he is a very good ball player, and he will be more experience in the system, then the newcomers or freshmen..

For swing to be good next year, he has to improve a bit though. He's got to start hitting 3s from the NBA line regularly, and he's got to get better at shooting off the catch.
