I guess it's the natural cynic in me, but I see the 10 and then 12 as a bit of a mirage. Teams 11-12 aren't going to magically get better in a "waiting period". The Big East 7 and Xavier/Butler/Creighton makes a lot of sense.

If they announce 12 teams at the launch party, then that's fine. But if it's only 10, I would think that there's no "want" from those schools involved in the decision making process for more.

VCU, Richmond, Dayton,SLU are all watching this...and I imagine there's going to be some hurt feelings when it's all said and done.

Well I woudl say they could get better in the waiting period, simply because by removing 3 teams from their conference, they move up in the standings.

But more importantly, if you have a seven team league that adds five teams in one year, four from one conference, it is a merger not an expansion. If you add three, then two more two years later, it is more of an expansion.
