Blaudschun-Metro Picking up Support
Most of the article is about the Catholic 7, however he does mention that they may cherry pick members of the current Big East conference staff. He says that the next priority for the football schools is to decide on a name--

The name issue will receive the most immediate attention. Big East commissioner Mike Aresco has said that the league will listen to all suggestions, but the term Metro–all but East Carolina are in Metropolitan Areas is picking up support. I will stick with my original suggestion of Big Metro Athletic Conference or Big Metro Conference.

Count me as a supporter of Metro. Easily the best suggestion out there.

At this point in comparison to America 12 the Metro sounds like a genius idea.

This conference will not exist in its current form in 2-3 years anyway, so it doesn't really matter

Agreed. I wasnt a big Metro supporter, but after that America-12 near miss, Im fine if we just go with some variation of Metro. Id like a traditional modifier to make it sound a little older--Big Metro, Eastern Metro, Great Metro, Atlantic Metro, blah, blah, blah...

America 12 WAS a trial balloon... and they WERE listening to all our comments... and it WILL be Metro. Cool.

Rock on!!

Big Metro: Big identifies us (kinda) with the Big 10 and Big 12, and is a nod to our Big East heritage. Metro defines our most unifying characteristic.

Wait --- as the "Big Metro" we'll be known as the 'BM' Conference.

LOL. In all seriousness, it will last as long as the ACC can keep the UMD lawsuit in court. As soon as that case is settled and the exit path is more clear for schools, the Big 10, Big 12, and SEC will take the teams they want, and then the ACC is just going to backfill with teams currently in the Big East (expect UConn, Cincy, the Florida schools, the Texas schools, and Memphis to all get the hardest looks...and it's not hard to imagine a scenario in which the ACC takes all 7 of the schools I mentioned). At that time, does the ACC lose its "Power" status, creating the "Power 4" and the "Group of Five" (with the demise of the Sun Belt that will follow from CUSA's own backfill efforts)? Time will tell.

American Metro Conference?

I liked "Atlantic Gulf Conference".

Oh .... the title of the thread should have been phrased "Metro is gaining speed", as in "Miko is gaining speed". That's how we express momentum on these boards.

Depends on what Maryland's actual exit fee ends up. If it is substantial the ACC will remain intact, if not all hell breaks loose and the ACC may cease to exist.

Did you ever play the game "Kerplunk" as a kid? In that game, you had to pull out these thin plastic sticks. Eventually, someone pulled out a stick and all of the marbles fell to the bottom of the game.

Maryland's exit fee may be that final plastic stick. If it is upheld, the stick and all of the marbles may stay in place. If it isn't upheld, it's all going to hit the fan as the marbles come crashing down.

Yes I did...I had completely forgotten about that game
