No.

As I said before, he will now refer to this as evidence that his direction helped UAB regain some of its medical credibility.

Hate to spoil the BOT bash party, but didn't we used to be higher on the list. I seem to recall a list several years ago in which the medical school was top 5. 10th place would represent slippage.

I remember Dr. Garrison saying it was her goal to elevate UAB into the top ten of medical schools... don't know whether that was in primary care education or research, but we are at least there now for primary care.

And I believe UAB was ranked in the top 10 for certain departments of care as a hospital, but as a school it was never in the top 10.

I have a nail* gun that I'd be happy to let one of my more-local Blazer brethren use. They get better grip than staples for those windy days while fishing in the River Styx near the Gates of Hell.

The numbered list ended with a 5 way tie for #84 on page 4. U of South AL was listed among the "unranked" on page 6 following a number of "off shore" schools.

RE: U.S. News 2014 Best Medical School Rankings
from UAB News:

UAB schools again ranked in top 10 by U.S. News & World Report
http://www.uab.edu/news/latest/item/3256...rld-report

According to rankings released March 12, the School of Health Professions master’s degree program in healthcare management is No. 5 in the nation. Physical therapy rose to No. 19, up from No. 29. Public health ranked No. 16.

The School of Medicine primary care program rose to No. 10 ranking, up from No. 12. The level reflects the school’s commitment to produce physicians who pursue residencies in one of the primary care fields. Geriatrics ranked No. 12. The AIDS program in the School of Medicine ranked No. 8.

The School of Nursing’s master’s program kept its No. 21 spot. The nurse practitioner (adult) program ranked No. 10, as did the nursing service administration program. The nurse practitioner (family) program ranked No. 12. The physician assistant program ranked No. 25.

Thats why I easily passed up on U of South Al's offer of a faculty position many years ago in the Med School and ultimately picked UAB over Univ North Carolina and Med College of Va.

Unfortunately the research rank is important as well. In this we're ranked 35. Which isn't bad, but it's not among the best yet.

hopefully we can bring that up and get into the top 25 for research ranking.

When getting into a discussion of research rank, you may be getting into an area dependent upon state funding for a school's programs. Federal funding may be offered as matching funding and Alabama's ability to match could be severely compromised by reductions in the funding from the SETF over the last 4 years. While all Post Secondary gets about 30% of the funds that go into the SETF, that amount has declined over the last half decade - the "pie" has gotten much smaller for everyone "dining" from it. That is why tuition and other "fees" have consistently increased over that time and will continue to increase for some time.
