MyBB Free Throw Rate - big weakness for UAB
UAB was very good at making free throws this season. Unfortunately they were one of the worst teams in getting to the free throw line.

Free Throw Rate (FTR) = Free Throws Attempted / Field Goals Attempted

In conference games only, UAB has the worst FTR in C-USA at 27.3%.

Tulane led the conference at 48.2%. Josh Davis had 245 free throw attempts and Ricky Tarrant had 197.

Rod Rucker led UAB with 115 attempts, and is the only one at this point with at least 100 attempts. Swing is close at 96. Most C-USA teams had at least three players with more than 100 free throw attempts.

How does UAB's FTR compare nationally? UAB is ranked 325th. That means 324 teams were better at getting to the free throw line than UAB, and only 22 were worse.

FTR defensively: UAB ranks 11th in C-USA in sending the opponent to the free throw line (conference games only). UAB's defensive FTR was 42.0%. Rice was last at 53.5%. UCF was best at 28.2%.

Nationally, UAB was ranked 238th. In other words (this is for you, demiveeman), only 109 teams were worse in sending their opponents to the FT line.

I stated UAB was very good at making free throws this season. Right now UAB is making 72.4% of their free throws. Only ECU (73.1%) and SMU (74.4%) were better in C-USA.

UAB is ranked 74th nationally.

Davidson is leading the country at 80.5%. Nik Cochran is 108-115 for 93.5%. Davidson has two other players above 83%.

I would think most fouls come from a team penetrating into "the paint" most of the game rather than more consistently shooting longer range jumpers. How did we do comparing offensive / defensive rebounds (playing close in to the goal) to getting or giving fouls?

It just seems like to me that the guards, in particular, did not drive to the basket very much this season. On the other hand, I don't know what got into Jordan Swing against Memphis but he sure did drive to the basket several times, as did Purifoy a couple of times, and they both cashed in on some great driving layups.

When you have no depth, you can't play as aggressively... this is also not the most athletic team UAB has fielded.

If they don't get it by now, they are never going to get it. Most of us understand this. . .

The refs just plain suck.

UAB gets consistently screwed more than any team in the NCAA.

(but I could be biased)

There's that too...the vast conspiracy headed by the BOT to screw UAB at every turn.
