Horizon tourney - Time travel
Im not sure if anyone got to see the semi-finals of the horizon tourney saturday night, but holy cow was that good basketball. Just looking at the size of the crowd in Valpo that night and the older but very unique arena Valpo plays in, it really took a person back to the day of Chick Evans. What stood out to me too is how hard those teams played Saturday night and how good the fundamentals were. Kind of reminded me of some of the classic UWGB/NIU matchups in the 90s. Can we ever get back to those days, ughh, NIU fans deserve it.

Yea, back then we'd work to get an open shot, and if we got one, much of the time we'd make the shot. UWGB did the same thing to us, with good execution.
I miss that.

I love the MAC, but there was just something a little more exciting about playing Loyola, UIC and UWM than Akron, BGSU and EMU.

Much easier to travel to games that are 40-60 miles away than 200-300

Plus you might know some people that went to those schools.

Wow, I said the exact same thing to my son as far as the arena and crowd. I think they said it seats 5,000 and from what I remember, that is close to what Chick Evans seated for a full house. I didn't watch the whole game, but it did seem like it was good fundamentals and team play. I know we don't get the very good to great athletes to come to NIU, but why the heck can't we play team ball? Is it because our players aren't very good and it is just harder for them to run an offense. I keep telling my high school freshman son who is a point guard. If you're a good ball handler, passer, and play good team ball, you'll be valuable to any team. And practice your outside shot until your arm is ready to fall off and you'll become invaluable.
