Team Down South Tourney
Anyone else notice in the Blah (formerly known as the Blade) that the BG Men are charging a $1 to attend their first round home tourney game? For a buck, why bother? Not sure this is the message I want to send to fans, that my post season product is worth a buck.

Not that I'm into BG bashing, but some BG knucklehead will probably highjack this string with a comment like "at least we're in," etc. We salvaged a co-championship season through all the obstacles tossed in our way. Watch out next year.

Knucklehead, Non-Knucklehead responses and a Serious Question

Non-Knucklehead response

We charged the same for the women's game. The conference does not receive any money from the host schools for the opening round games. You failed to mention that season ticket holders get into the game for FREE along with the students. The people who will be there tonight are the same people who have been attending games all season long. Maybe the price does bring in a few extra people. It's Monday. What's on TV tonight? Everyone will be home in time to watch Lizard Lick Towing.

Knucklehead response

04-cheers "At least we're in" 04-cheers

Lookout for us in three years! COGS

Serious Question

Women's NCAA Tournament question - On the chance that UT does not win the MAC tourney, they are a bubble team.

Does the committee select UT and/or OSU (who is hosting this year)? Looking forward to some interesting discussion.

I do not see the committee selecting an at-large MAC team, and I see them awarding a bid to OSU (because it's OSU and because they are hosting). I do not believe OSU is worthy of a bid this year, but the committee has bias no matter if it's men's or women's tournament selection.

$1 is too much money to watch two horrible teams play IMHO.

Save your money then and stay at home. Those kids who play for BG deserve to be supported by our fanbase instead of being lambasted like they've been. It's been a very disappointing season to see BG "fans" trash players on our own team.

I can understand Toledo fans trashing our kids. We trash theirs. But they stand behind their players and yet we trash ours.

I agree. I'm not posting anything about it either. But if anybody has any inside info (or any wild guesses) about teams the Rockets will face next season, I'd be interested in that.

RE: Team Down South Tourney
If you’re going to charge a buck, why not make it free for everyone and just collect the popcorn revenue?

In three year’s our men’s team will also be pretty darn good. The MAC may run through either of our institutions by then, or who knows maybe we’ll have half the team transfer out again and we’re only playing with seven guys?

OK, random thoughts….

Regarding the women, you would hope that whoever is hosting doesn’t influence making the tournament or not? Suck-nuts fans will show up if their women are in, so they are guaranteed a big gate if they let the OSU women into the tourney. If Toledo does end up in Columbus for the first couple of rounds, I’d be happy and will most likely travel. Plus it may be the last time to see St. John’s arena before they tear it down for student housing. Our strength of schedule bites us in the butt. This year no at-large women’s MAC team will make the tournament. If worse comes to play, I’ll take another NIT title and 7 more home games. It’s a delicate balancing act, you want to make the NCAA’s but you could go out in round one or two, or do you go on a run like we did two years ago and win the whole tourney?

The OSU women at 18-13 have NIT all over it, but as we know the NCAA isn’t fair across the board. To digress for a minute, our men’s team had the hammer thrown at it while another school (St. Mary’s) recently made the news and they were slapped with what I consider minor and some major sanctions, but no loss of conference or NCAA privileges. They had an assistant coach doing basically borderline criminal activities and our kids through the failure of a bad head coach hire/bad recruiting didn’t meet minimum academic requirements. Even though our current crop of kids has completely turned around the ship, we were told our regular season doesn’t even count in our conference; we’re banned from the NCAA’s and our conf. tournament. So in digression, Yes – the NCAA is inconsistent in its decisions and the MAC will most likely get screwed by an undeserving OSU team. I always love how it takes months and months to find out if one of our football players is going to be ineligible or how they’ll rule on a transfer, but the big schools immediately know if their 5 star tackle can play.

On the way into work this morning, part of the radio discussion was “is it bad for college basketball that the mid-majors are competing for berths?” I missed part of the discussion, but it had something to do with the one and done kids moving from major schools to the NBA and that people aren’t following the big schools anymore. They almost shamed mid-major kids for staying 4-5 years and come NCAA tourney time, nobody is a household name because we’re mid majors.

The abuse heaped on Rause, Erger and Orr fils is absurd. Blame Orr pater foor playing them, fine but don'rag so hard on the players.

I don't understand the thread title. Is this that wizard on broom stick game? I'd pay a dollar if it came with a hotdog and a pop.

If they would have charged nothing, they might have doubled the crowd. Gone from 3 to 6. Oh wait, the cheerleaders have to be there.
