Donnie Tyndall took a team who was TIED with two other schools as the LEAST D-1 EXPERIENCED team in the nation....and went 23-8 with a chance of going to the NCAA tournament as an at-large.

If Donnie Tyndall was coaching Memphis this year.....Memphis would have gone UNDEFEATED.

That is why Donnie Tyndall should be CUSA COY. End of thread.

Tyndall deserves credit for making So Miss a tough team out of the available roster, but the players are generally physically and mentally mature men. It is not the same as a team that is both inexperienced and young.

Paster did go undefeated...Tyndall did not...Pastner wins.

Any average coach could've taken a team with as much TALENT and DEPTH that Memphis had this year and walked through CUSA undefeated. That's why I don't put that much stock in to the fact that he coached a team that went undefeated in CUSA.....it's like DUH!!...you SHOULD'VE gone undefeated! Look at the amount of talent and depth on that roster! You're SUPPOSED to go undefeated with all those weapons. Color me unimpressed COMPARED to what Donnie Tyndall did with USM this year.

RE: Who is your Coach of the Year?
Pastner did a heck of a job this year. If he wins COTY, then it's well deserved for the accomplishment of going 16-0.

But let's be honest. Memphis was the favorite to win the conference this year. They were predicted to go 16-0 in conference. Memphis is seen as above every team in the conference in terms of basketball strength. Pastner should have been fired if he didn't go 16-0.

Tyndall, on the other hand, came into a job having to teach a new offense and defense to the youngest team in Division I. He took a team predicted to finish 9th in the league to 2nd. We don't have 4* and 5* recruits. Tyndall did an amazing job in his first season at USM and I believe that should get him COTY.

If Pastner gets it, congrats to him, but I believe that Tyndall should be in the running for COTY in conference and national circles for what he's done.

Are you a valley girl?

it takes more than an average coach to GET that kind of talent and depth in the first place...then he took that talent and depth he recruited and coached them to a perfect season.

Of course, if we would have lost a few it would have all been on the coach. But when we win, it's not the coach....it's the talent. Make up your mind.

I wouldn't say that it takes more than an average coach. Look at our baseball team. We've had great recruiting classes, yet apparently we have an average coach.

Right now I wish Berry was at least average.

Pastner has to win it.

I will say it may be easier for outsiders to gloss over what Lebo has done. Maybe people recognize that he is improving our program but I don't think unless you have gone to ECU games for years and then saw the team and the atmosphere around the program this year, you can fully grasp just how much he has changed the entire attitude of the program. Both with the players and the staff on the inside to the way students and fans perceive the program.

When talking about CoY, I always think in terms of results verses expectations.

Which leads me to one guy: Tyndall.

The reason the Tigers have talent and depth is because Pastner recruited the players and recruiting is the most important task a coach undertakes.

I guess the Memphis coach - in some years - is automatically excluded because it is impossible to improve on the result of perfection.

It's all relative. Do you seriously think it's more impressive taking VCU to the final 4 or Kentucky where All Americans line up to play? Some jobs have massive built in advantages. Top 20 at Memphis with a team you have had 3 years to build isn't as good of a coaching job as top 40 at USM in year one IMO with thrown together JUCO's, many of which you didn't even recruit.

You were expected to be good and win the conference. That's what you did.

Congrats on that.

Now, where was USM expected to finish?

With a first year head coach?
