I think Memphis gets the men's basketball tourney, women's remains in Hartfort.

I think you're spot on and that is reasonable. No one would argue the 3 remaining aren't due the lion's share. The dispute is over what is reasonable. CUSA exit fees were incurred with a higher conference TV payout in mind by the newbies and there should be some consideration for that. Otherwise in principle the holdovers are due the most of the money pool and no one would argue otherwise.

What have the CUSA exit fees got to do with it? If/when UConn & Cincy leave, will you be waiving their exit fees? Exit fees have to do with those left behind, not what you're moving forward to.

You're making an argument that you should be compensated for the exit fees you had to pay to the CUSA schools left behind, but then arguing that UConn, Cincy, & USF aren't entitled to the exit fees that they're entitled to as the jilted parties when they were left behind. The 2 arguments are contradictory and are looking at it only from one point of view - yours.

Ill say that ODU is one to keep an eye on. They might not be the sexy pick right now but look at what they offer and won't be surprised if they jump in picture for a 2015 addition.

I agree that needs could change based on what happens over the next few years. I still think the Big1G digest what they have done now and study what could help them with the 2017 TV Contract. That gives the new league a few years to play together and who knows what ODU looks like in just 2yrs with their access to recruit rich Tidewater. They have a solid Basketball program with a beautiful Arena, the Football Stadium would have to be expanded considerably and hopefully they would do something with their Baseball Stadium that is sub standard.

There is nothing left to JOIN! There is NO conference! There are 3 schools desperately sitting by the phone hoping to God the ACC will call, and they want the saviors to bend over and take their medicine like big boys?

I don't think so.

I agree with this as well. If in fact Navy backs out, I think ODU has to be given some serious consideration for a variety of reasons. With Temple supposedly wanting another Northeastern school, ODU fits the mold IMHO.

You don't comprehend very well, but it's simple. No one has tried to argue the principle that the 3 retainees aren't due the lion's share. To say that the deal hasn't changed since the newbies signed up is just being deliberately ignorant and self serving. To start a new partnership with a group and leave them hugely disadvantaged, first by your own windfall, but to also then have them pay not only exit fees and then entrance fees that put them further behind is to set up 2 tiers in the league.

For a league that completely imploded due to that sort of set up, one would think a group looking to build a stable league would want to accomplish a better competitive environment. But to just grab the whole pot off the poker table and then claim the newbies need to get over it is just exactly what is wrong now with college athletics. The newbies aren't asking for one thing that is unreasonable, but you insist otherwise. That's your problem. My guess is the administration at both your favorite school and the others will see it the same way I do. They still get a big windfall.

Do you want to follow the best of CUSA minus Tulsa and Southern Miss or stay and play a hodge podge of start up FB programs and Sunbelt Members. We could have certainly made the best of CUSA and I think the ECU vs ODU rivalry would grow to be a good one but it was well worth rolling the dice to continue playing UCF, UH, SMU, Memphis and add UC, UCONN, USF and Temple for whatever time period.
For Tulane, the sunbelt expansion was intolerable. We don't really care about travel costs. Rebuilding our fan base is a difficult task as they've checked out over the last 10 years, and it simply would have made it more difficult to recoup them playing sunbelt teams. The core benefit that Tulane gets from this league is still there: a reputable conference from which to rebuild our fan base.
Had C-USA not expanded by more than a team or 2, it would be different. But they did.

He's got a pretty good point

But still it would be funny if the cusa schools just formed a new league and left them out in the cold.

If I'm SMU Im thinking that's going to happen eventually so why not partner with rice, Tulsa, southern miss sooner rather than later.

The b3 should take the money on the condition that all of it be redistributed in exit fees when they leave.

The whole thing feels like a shakedown. UC, USF, and UConn had no control over the other teams leaving. Realistically, there was no way for us to keep the Big East name, knowing that it would be adjudicated in Providence. Why the remaining three should have to share remaining conference funds equally (or even close to equally) with teams that are not yet members is ridiculous.

For curiosity's sake, I'd really like to see those three try to rescind an invite of one of the newbies. "OK SMU, if you really don't want to be here, that's fine. You can stay in CUSA and share a conference with North Texas and Texas State. Southern Miss, you take their spot."

From what I have heard, it's sad to see the noob schools reaction to the blogs/articles that were initially reported as well as to their knee-jerk fan reactions.

In any event, lets get this settled and move on.

The Cats need to find a way out of this.

Good find, and great article 04-bow

That's pure conjecture at this point... As a fan of a team that actually has played UConn, I can say that they are the real deal.

As a fan of both the Big East and C-USA for many years, I've watched both conferences closely. I seriously doubt Tulsa would "kick UConn's ass".

The only Southwestern schools UConn has played recently:

1) Baylor (with RG III) .... UConn beat Baylor in a close game in 2008 in East Hartford. Then UConn dominated Baylor in Waco in 2009. Interestingly, RG III said the UConn crowd was the loudest he ever heard in college FB.

2) Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl ... . that score was 34-20 with 7 minutes left in the 4th quarter, and UConn was moving the ball near midfield. OU scored two TD's in the last few minutes to make the score look bad, but it was a real game - not a joke like posters on these boards like to say.

UConn would not fear Tulsa.

I'll take what Melky said one step further. It is contradictory to both claim entrance fees should be reduced or even eliinated because everyone is essentially joining a new conference with no history AND also claim the new schools deserve a share of the exit money and/or assets of the old league. You either want the remaining benefits of the league and you pay to join, or you think it's a new league where everyone is starting fresh, and thus UC/UConn/USF should keep what they earned. There really is no compromise there, it's one or the other.

You new schools should not make the mistake of underestimating UConn football. UConn always has huge offensive linemen, very tough runningbacks and a very good defense. It is also very difficult to play up there during the conference season as the weather makes a turn for the worse (not just cold, lots of wind) and their fans sit on top of you making a tough enviornment. RGIII was quoted a year or so ago as saying it was the toughest venue he had played in collegiately.

I can say that Memphis leads both Tulsa (14-9) and Cincinnati (18-12) all-time by about the same percentage. Of course it is going to take a year or two to catch up with UC and UConn due to the AQ recruiting advantage that you have enjoyed. Looking forward to playing you both in the future.
