RE: Trivia Question
North Carolina State with David Thompson, Monte Towe & Tom Burlison were on probation and couldn't go to the tourney in 1973. They went undefeated and did win the championship the following year. I'm not sure about the years though.

1953-54 Kentucky Wildcats were also undefeated and didn't go the the tournament because of NCAA violations.

RE: Trivia Question
As a result of the Villanova’s forfeit to Penn, the 1971 Penn Quakers are the only team in NCAA History to go undefeated and not win the national championship. They lost to Villanova in the East Regional final but Villanova vacated all games in the tournament including their loss in the national championship game.

I'd say the first two before your "vacated" answer.
