RE: Texas about to burn?
The Cleve Bryant stuff was really freaky. Texas is very fortunate that didn't blow up worse than it did. Still, Texas was told they had a creepy sex weirdo on the payroll, investigated it and fired the guy.

Personally, I think Bev got an unfair deal. She messed up and deserved to be fired BUT Applewhite was also in a position of authority to some degree over the student he nailed. I know he fessed up, per policy, and she never did......I still think she was treated differently.....not because of her race, orientation or disability.....she was treated differently because track isn't as important as football. I hope she wins some $ in her settlement.

I disagree. Having an affair with one of your student-athletes is a total violation of trust, even if that student is an adult. She has been a whole lot more successful than Applewhite (with 6 track national championships), has the right race, orientation and disability, so it was more difficult to decide to fire her. She crossed the line and deserved to get fired.

Applewhite probably would have replaced Mack when he retired, assuming the offense produces, but that's not going to happen now.

I don't...she broke the rules. Why should she profit?

Applewhite's case might be a tad different (don't have all the facts) but you are correct his FB status probably helped.

Nothing to do with this. Article says his resignation has been rumored since long before the Kearney deal and was connected to law school politics.

Interesting. The coincidence in timing is odd though...

She had a student she coaches, Applewhite had one who was his subordinate employee. To me, that is equally bad. Applewhite's saving grace is that, per policy, he reported it on his own.

This is all just hair-splitting. We all know football coaches get cut more slack.

I do not believe in coincidences when the covering of one's posterior is in order.

Message boards say it was a student trainer, but that hasn't been confirmed. She's reporting to the head trainer. Don't think its hair splitting when its not someone who really reports to you. From the standpoint of the university, hers was much worse. Morally, since he was married and his wife was pregnant, his was pretty bad, but that's a personal negative, not business.

Neither do I, which is why I pointed that out...

I wasn't trying to be original. I just nudged your inference along a bit. Besides, things are a bit slow for the time being.

There's a lot of other stuff going on (as partly indicated in the article) that has nothing to do with athletics. Its politics, school funding, tuition, mission, Perry not understanding higher education (he was a C student at A&M when it wasn't nearly as good as it is now).

Are you saying that Perry is the actual figure upon which Senator Blutarsky is based for Animal House? Or is it the other way around?
