D1 Basketball Transfer Rate
many of you have been overly critical of MM due to some players transferring in his first two years. Sporting News and other sources report that 40% of Division I Basketball Players transfer BEFORE the end of their sophomore year.
Put in context, the NIU transfer rate is not out of the norm by any means.

RE: D1 Basketball Transfer Rate
We cannot afford to have our "top recruits" transferring if we want to rebuild the mens BB program into a MAC contender.

Yea, that's the question. If you have guys on the bench transferring so they get more playing time, that's one thing. If it's one of your better players, that's different.

That's a crazy high "average." I wouldn't have guessed it was so high.

AAU and individual star culture of basketball is pervasive. Every kid that's D-1 today thinks he's the next big thing. These kids can't handle sitting on the bench or accepting tough love coaching. You see it in football and other sports but to a much lesser degree.
Very instant gratification business for these kids and watching coaches and administrators play musical chairs doesn't help either.

Also there are SO MANY places a kid can transfer to. There are just more options (than football, at least) and always a ton of bad teams looking for a quick fix.

Just imagine how high it could get if the NCAA approves the proposed rule that says they can transfer and play immediately if the player has a certain GPA.

You could see a kid on the bench and have your assistants text him during the game!

This is why coaches are always recruiting. The problem Nader, Springs and others are having with Monty, is he is actually coaching them and holding them accountable for their actions. As crazy as it sounds many of our players think they are going to be in the NBA. Just read their twitter pages for a couple of days. Monty is trying and will only accept guys that want to be good teammates. Some guys don't understand that if the team does well its good for them as individuals! Monty has made mistakes, but he is doing things the right way.

Horrendous post. Last time I checked Monty handed those guys schollies, they weren't on the roster when he got here. You want to give kids with questionable character, work ethic or a kid that isn't coachable a scholly that's the risk you run. He made his bed, now he has to lay in it. Coach 'em up and if they refuse it that's on him.

Didn't U of I's coach ban twitter for his players? Wonder if that would help.

Sometimes you may place too much trust in your recruiters..shouldn't they be evaluating all aspects of the player including work ethic?

NIU007, what the heck are you talking about. I never said Monty isn't laying in his own bed! I also didn't say anything about the kids character. Recruiting is partly a crapshoot for most coaches. How many ftball players since Kill was here have we let go or had problems with. Is that on Kill and DD?

RE: D1 Basketball Transfer Rate
Huskiepride12, you are too late with checking out twitter. When we beat CMU nader said "good team win I should be really happy but Im just not" Springs also was complaining about not starting that game. I am not saying they are bad guys. I just dont believe they have bought into the team consept. When guys dont care who scores, just that somebody scores then the team will do well.
