He did post the same thing.

If you think sending drugs by mail is uncommon, then why do they have drug-sniffing dogs at every post office?

Nobody said sending drugs via the mail was uncommon...

What was said is that sending your drugs for a ranom person to sign for is pretty thin..

Very sad situation. If I am Akron I am praying this is contained to this one player.

Correct. I'm assuming there had to be a history of this occurring at that address. I'm just amazed someone could be that stupid.

Not a roomie, but according to the Plain Dealer:

An Akron Police statement said that at around 4:30 p.m. detectives arrested Abreu, 21, of East Exchange Street and Austin L. Durgala, 18, of East Dartmore Street in Akron, for trafficking in marijuana and possession of marijuana.

They were charged after detectives seized over five pounds of marijuana at Durgala’s residence, the statement said.

Why do I think USPS has drug sniffing dogs at every post office? Because idiots send drugs by mail. Even idiots are smart enough to not send drugs to people they don't know.

For example, uakron kid, when was the last time your friendly postal carrier dropped off a misdirected package of weed to your house?

If you gave every team a drug test this minute and suspended every player who tested positive for pot, you would have a lot of shorthanded teams in conference tournaments. It is unusual to see a top player get busted for a large quantity like this, but anyone who is surprised to see college or pro basketball players who smoke the stuff hasn't been paying attention. There has never been the will to come down on this, hence basketball players only get busted for possession when they are stupid, rarely for failing drug tests which are not administered often enough and randomly enough to be a serious deterrent.

I think axeme is right. If the NCAA tested for pot and painkiller abuse before every conference tournament or bowl game like the Olympics test, there would be teams of last minute walk ons cutting down nets or showing off bowl trophies.

The Akron Zips will be without the services of starting point guard Alex Abreu after the All-MAC junior found himself in jail today facing multiple felony charges.

The Akron Beacon-Journal reports Abreu was arrested today after accepting a “large” shipment of marijuana from undercover officers who detected the package using drug dogs.

A search of the Akron Municipal Court records shows Abreu was charged today with two third-degree felonies of drug trafficking and drug abuse. In Ohio, third-degree marijuana trafficking is charged when the amount in question is between one and five kilograms. The third-degree felony charge of aggravated possession includes “a presumption for a prison term.”

This is the second time Abreu has been suspended from the team. The first time was in November of 2011 for a violation of university policy.03-phew

I don't live in a neighborhood where pot dealers frequent.

I think they would be more likely to send something next door, to someone they know at least as far as "that person next door". It makes the mis-delivered package story more believable, and you can keep an eye on things just by looking out your window.

Looking at this one way, this is an incredibly stupid thing to do, but people and players do incredibly stupid things all the time. Our players have. It could happen anywhere.

On the other hand, is this what Zips fans meant when they bragged about KD's Puerto Rican pipeline?

Sure you don't. I am sure no one smokes pot in your neighborhood. You and Mr. Rodgers keep in nice and locked down.

RE: Alex Abreu Arrested
Starting point guard Alex Abreu was arrested on drug charges and has been suspended indefinitely by the team. Phil Trexler of the Akron Beacon Journal reports that narcotics agents with the Akron Police Department arrested Abreu with a “large amount of marijuana during a controlled buy.”

So reports have him getting arrested at home when he accepted a package, at another kids place, charge with possession trafficking and abuse, and now busted in a drug sting controlled buy. Well, maybe some more "facts" will surface following arraignment.

He was not at home. The reports have this happening several miles from campus, very near Firestone Stadium.

If he was no where near his home that really makes the "accepted package" idea worthless. The chances that a package would be delivered to someone else's house and him being there the same day would have to be the worst luck ever.

I will say it. I think it's funny. Arrogant asses from Akron lose their floor general due to drug trafficking charges. And before anyone casts stones, don't think Akron fans wouldn't be rubbing it in if it were DJ Cooper or if KSU was in first place and it was Randal Holt. They would.

Haven't seen anyone from Akron even remotely defending this. I think its tragic for Abreau, sad for an Akron team that was playing very well and sad for the MAC to get more bad publicity. Among Toledo, BG and Akron we're taking a beating as a conference in the last month.

Cooper's just a goofy little kid. I think Akron fans would be more shocked than gloatful (yes, I just made up that word).

Given Kent basketball's past history, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Holt or anybody else got arrested. I would be disappointed, though, since I thought their new AD had mostly cleaned things up.

One thing few people remember is that Josh Cribbs was arrested in 2004 for trafficking in marijuana and pleaded guilty to possession.

He was charged with selling at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center.

He was reinstated and played the next year.

There's certainly one right here in this thread. I don't define drug dealing as "tragic"; getting hit by a car, catching a disease, having your house burn down would be "tragic" but not earning your way into two felonies.

He was not charged with selling at the MACC, he was arrested at his home when the police showed up for a domestic disturbance.
