Really, what were they going to name this conference? You can't use anything that refers to a specific geographic area within the United States, unless they were to call themselves the "Not All the Way to the West Coast Conference." The market for "Big ____" conferences is pretty well saturated. "America 12" sounds strange, but that's largely because it's new to our ears--everybody will eventually get used to it. While I don't immediately think, "WHAT A GREAT NAME!" when I hear it, I'm not sure what better name they could have come up with.

Exactly. We look foolish.
$100 millions divided plus espn millions plus no membership dues will help to easy the pain for all of its new members....can you say, "I'M RICH"!

I thought all that money was going to UCONN, Cincy, & USF?

I guess we thought they were so excited to be leaving C-USA that they wouldn't choose to name their new conference after C-USA.

1 million per team if it were split equally...which it's not by the way...is hardly rich in today's world of sports.
Plus ESPN's 'millions' is roughly 1.8 per team...again, hardly rich.

No......word is $15-20 million each to those three and rest divided among newbies over course of espn tv contract (case of early exit by either of three or newies).......lawyers hands, details will be release later. Newies are saying they were suppose to get $6-8 million each for joining BE, too......not just $1.8 million from tv. Their reason is there was be no conference without 8 newies. Plus newies are asking for NO membership fees, too. It will all be settle soon as all 11 of schools need each other.

If $15M per 3 staying, then only $6.8M per newbie (at 8 schools). If $20M per 3 staying then only $5M per newbie (one-time or split over time). So $15M-20M for the left overs and $5M-6,8M per newbie, only talking about the $100 C7 ransom money. Spread over 5 years that will gain each newbie between an extra million to and extra $1.36 million. Nice money, but hardly rich.

Why is all this hate.......it is not a school in Cusa that would not like to be the 12 member.......why do you think USM has hired an outside consultant firm......not to stay in Cusa. ECU hired outsiders, too. By the way c7 got $10 million total and we sold name for cool $100 million.
Lets just all try to get along and wish each other best:) Also to the future new Cusa member you are still guest until July 1 and remember
..........you were selected because others left Cusa so be thankful, too.

it was a good natured jest. or at least it was intended to be. you gotta admit, first it was the football only thing, and now they're gonna change their damn name before you even get there.
that's not just normal bad luck, that's the highly concentrated kind.
next thing ya know, you will hire an SEC DC as your head coach, and everyone will beat your johnson.

You guys better hope you have a white-hot football team going into the BCS next year because if you have a mediocre UConn get waxed by an SEC school, your new conference may NEVER recover. It's going to be a huge stage that will make or break your conference.

It'll fully come around. When UH/SMU etc were invited to the BE, memphis fans, Tulane, and ECU fans all acted as if they didnt want it, though Memphis and ECU had been campaigning for years.
Then Memphis got it. ECU and Tulane fans talked trash about it. Now they are both in.
Tulsa and USM fans talk trash and bash the conference, yet both would join in a heartbeat if asked. Like you said, USM has hired outside consultants to get out of CUSA. Just book mark threads like these then you help those fans whose teams are invited in the future eat crow.

LOL.. a FIU fan talking about white hot football and the BCS.
You guys can thank us if you want. If it wasn't for us moving to the A/12 you would be playing South Alabama in the Sun Belt.

Everything is done so let all respect each other and move forward. It is enough hate in world without adding to it. I just hope ECU and USM continue to play each other in football because we have a history together long before Cusa or BE. I truly believe USM will be dark horse to win east division of Cusa this football season as most ECU fans will tell you all Cusa titles in football go through USM.

Well, if you have been following this for more than 20 minutes, you'd know that FIU and UNT were the first invites to C-USA. Before La Tech, ODU, Charlotte and the rest.
So in the long run it's just a little bit more money? After the smoke settles Memphis will probably be no better off than they were in CUSA especially since Louisville is leaving and probably Cincinnati .
