Just going to throw this out there, because it has been on my mind heavily. I alluded to it in the other thread. What is going on at our beloved university?

A. High level people gone or rumored to be gone...
Jeff Compher (VP), Eddie Williams (Executive VP), John Peters, John Gordon (Convo Director), Bob Albanese, Don Grady

B. John Gordon "leaving" for potential ethics violations, Coffee fund scandal, rape cover up, FBI serving search warrants that may or may not be related to these other issues...

Is this all coincidence or is there a failure of leadership at the top? I know we all love President Peters for what he has done for the university, but what if all of this stuff was allowed to happen under him as well, what does that mean? Who in the BOT has been paying attention to what is going on? Is it possible Eddie Williams is really able to treat all of these people as puppets, or is he just another miscreant like the rest of them and we can blame him because he is a much less likable character?

The timing is weird and ECU being a lateral or step down is also weird. I dont care how it happened, Im just glad JC is gone.

I'd lean more towards coincidence on Compher's leaving. He's about as high as he can get as AD here and he may just want to get out of here and not have his name associated with this.

Then again, there's always a chance he could be involved, but of the ones you listed, I'd think he's the least likely to be involved.

First of all, you need to separate those who have been hired based on merit vs. those hired based on political connections (untouchable to those who were hired on merit). Once that is sorted out, while not acceptable, this whole mess is at least easier to sort out. Many individuals who have been hired,largely in government/public sector jobs,( an area in which I toil) can skate through life very nicely, but if they get too greedy, they pave the way for thier own demise.

It was Peters time to go/retire, and Compher got an offer as good AD's do. The rest of it is just a coincidence and a shame, no biggy, move on. Lets believe that an awesome Prez and AD are just around the corner.

DD, JC, and Dr. Peters left NIU a better place than they found it. Just hoping the new ones bring NIU to the next level. The jury is still out on MM. We will not even discuss EW.

If it weren't for the success of the football program, we'd be discussing the last five or so years as a mega disaster in terms of publicity. Bad stuff has been piling up.

For the love of god ECU is NOT a step down for him.

He will be making $136,000 more not including any bonuses at ECU.

ECU athletics earns about 40% more in revenue than NIU athletic.

This is his youngest sons Sr year in High School so after this spring he did not have any family issues to leaving us.

He was from the area so its like he gets to go home.

This spring is the end of his 5 year contract.

It was telling that when his extension window came over a year ago that Peters did not sign him for the additional 2 years.

how is ECU a stepdown, he doubled his salary and they have a much bigger ath budget then we do. Our ath budget is not that big. Plus he is going to a part of the country he probably wants to retire in.

Also, take a look at the ECU athletic facilities. WAY better than we have here.

Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium is pretty nice.

I firmly believe that NIU's concerns, troubles and peculiarities can be directly tied to the history of corruption within the government of the State of Illinois.

It has. Political pressure caused the admissions "scandal" at the U of I that was blasted in the Tribune. State legislators "asked" the U of I to admit certain constituents. These same legislators approve the U of I's budget. The message was pretty clear.

I'd like to call MD a troll but I think that would be giving him way too much credit. He is just insane and over dramatic. Maybe sometime in the next month he'll stop posting about how much he hates JC, how ECU is a step down, etc etc etc. There is no point in responding to any of his nonsense.
