Doug should actually do some journalism next week and have the AJC count this week as vacation.

panama I think that you are missing the point that Doug is trying to make. Which college sport is the most important in the south. Football All other sports feed off of football unless there is something real big at stake in that other sport besides just braging rights over who won the game. Do you think it is going matters to a Troy or USA football fans that they only get to play at home one time every two years against each other in football. They have only played each other in football one time so far but there game will get even more heated when more is on the line from the outcome of the game than just state braggin rights such as the outcome of the conference championship race. I expect Troy to win this game for the next several years but USA day will come which will only make there game each year more heated. One day Troy & USA fans will look at there game each year with the same passion as the Troy/JSU game from years ago.

The same could happen to GaSt & GaSo but only time can tell.

What I am saying is that Doug is really overblowing the situation. Rivalries are created on the field. They aren't created by journalists and message board posters. GSU needs about 20 things before needing a GS rivalry. A beat reporter who actually understands the fan base he's covering would be a great start. Just more Dougie hack journalism because he's still mad he lost the GT beat to a whippersnapper.

I'm in a hurry today but I need to respond to this.

When I moved to Little Rock, UALR was a team we played non-conference and it was no big deal. There would be 3,000 at Barton with half or more of the crowd ASU fans playing on a court featuring a slobbering Razorback. Most of those ASU fans were local to Little Rock, not fans coming from Jonesboro. In Jonesboro it drew like any other non-conference game.

I was honestly puzzled to drive by the UALR campus and see a countdown to ASU sign.

THEN

UALR comes into the same league via the American South / Sun Belt merger. We beat UALR in Jonesboro, we beat them in Little Rock, ho-hum.

Then we get to the conference tournament in Biloxi. ASU leads by one with seconds left. UALR drives jacks up a shot it bounces three times on the rim and falls in giving them the win and knocking us out.

It has built from there. With a few exceptions (especially Fisher era). The games have been close and we've managed to lose in gut wrenching form to UALR so many times that ASU fans hate UALR now. A couple years ago they beat us on a half court shot.

You THINK its no big deal, wait until you play with something on the line.

Which is my point ASF. I was in Mobile when our team fought back and lost by 5 and saw the USA TD that I will go to my grave saying was caught out of bounds. Then we beat them in double OT in the Dome. That's what builds rivalries. I would love a rivalry with Charlotte but you cannot create that.

Like I said he is an unmotivated hack. They moved Ken Sigiura to the GT beat from ours and gave us this gem. Spring practice is coming up, we have a pro day next week and this is what he spends a week on.

"A Tech rivalry with State would be pointless"

Your beat writer brought it up. I guess he is obsessed with us?

With that said, it is clear Roberson is VERY concerned with the attendance problem and interest in the program. If things do not turnaround, he may not have a job as a beat writer. He sees the need to generate interest in the program and a rivalry will help. A good rivalry is something fans look forward to the entire season so it carries longer than just one game. Roberson is only trying to help GaSt.

The AJC staff is obviously not paying attention to this guys activities. Cox which owns the AJC, WSB Channel 2 and WSB Radio have red and black glasses on only. Its not the first time Doug has been dismissive to GSU fans. Lets face it, he would rather still be on the GT beat and PantherTalk's front page is kicking his can for news stories. In fact there have already been stories on there about Georgia Southern getting added and Kennesaw adding football.Of course nobody spent a week on it. t any rate Doug is notoriously lazy, often grafting stories from GSU news releases and I know for a fact that our Communications Assoc AD spoon feeds him stories. I suppose that's why he was "demoted" to our beat. Very sad.
