I know what my reaction would be were a coach here to do this. Is Tim still sainted out in West Texas?

RE: Saint Floyd
compared to their tool of a coach prior... i'd rather have TF for 2 years than that joke Barbee for 5 or however long he was there. Regardless of whether he goes or stays, if I were a UTEP fan I'd be very appreciative. Tim Floyd showed college basketball that a big name coach can go down to West Texas, coach the Miners, have a good season, and move up to a top teir program.

Having musical chairs in your coaching position would suck, but again, I'd rather have good coaches come and use me as a stepping stone than having average coaches come and not do anything positive.

All that to say, congrats Miners on a good season... and congrats TF if you chose to go to USC. No one can blame you. Good luck tonight fellas!

After what he did during the Lashay Page debacle last year at Southern Miss, I might call him anything but a saint.

I'm not worried. These stories pop up quite often about Coach Floyd. I think he's committed to El Paso. If not, we have Billy G willing and waiting.

Maybe it's just my optimistic nature, but this part of the article sounds like someone who is just clearing the air with an old boss/friend, not interviewing for a job:

Quote:Floyd said it was important his former players and coaches know that he had talked to Haden.

"I feel they should know that USC reached out, that no violations were found by the NCAA with USC basketball," Floyd said.

These kinds of stories will always circulate if you have a good coach.

A couple of weeks ago, there was a story about Pastner to USC.

They are having a better season at 16-12 (9-5) with a good win over a tough Oregon team than the blazers at 15-14 (7-7). you sure like to run that mouth, frequently. Often putting down other teams when those blazer's of yours aren't much to talk about in any sport. (sorry other UAB fans)

I don't. Considering all the money he has, and that he has decided to spend so much time in El Paso, that tells me he really respects the city and the program. I don't think Floyd is going though.

Comparing Apples to Oranges.

This is Floyd's 3rd year at UTEP (which is typically the put-up-or-shut-up year for many programs). He's had both Major College and NBA head coaching experiences before he came to UTEP.

UAB's head coach is in his first head coaching job ever and was hired after another coach was fired, not like Floyd were a coach left for another job.

Tim Floyd has been a head coach since Jerod Haase was 12 years old.

Comparison isn't even close.

Maybe so...but that won't be any of your concern.

Nor will UTEP.

Enjoy the Big Least and your new rivalry with Tulane.

It is not apples to oranges. I am comparing record vs record for one year. Memphis Blazer asked "what good season". All I said was the season for UTEP is better than UAB's. I didn't say anything about a particular coaches season, I said team's season, as in W's and L's. Definitely not apples to oranges. It's pretty simple as I am comparing W-L record of two programs during one year. Just like the rest of the world does. No one says "Hey UAB has a new coach, lets give them a handicap of xx games. Thus they are in the NCAA tourny this year." Plus- Pastner came in his first season after Cal did alot more damage leaving than did Mike Davis's firing last season and still went 24-10, 13-3... Beating UAB head to head, as well as had a better conference record. (you had a better non-conference by one game, diffrence in schedule).

Again, I am not taking shots at UAB as a school. My only purpose for posting the above was to get MemphisBlazer off his horse. He trolls around the Memphis boards and BEast boards continually, most of the time saying crap like he did above. My only point is put up or shut up. If i bring up UTEP having a good season and someone says "I have yet to see the good season", it better be a USM or a Memphis poster as they are the only two schools at this moment who can talk sh!t about UTEPs season.

I never said UAB is having a good season. I just don't think 16-12 is a good season. If UAB was 16-12, I wouldn't think it was a good season either. Sorry you are so sensitive to it, and maybe 16-12 is great what UTEP fans consider good, but considering your tradition and history, I would think you would want better.

My comment had nothing to do with UAB. It's funny that everyone's first line of defense is to go after something unrelated to the original post.

Edit: sorry I just assumed it was a UTEP fan who retorted. Should have known it was a Memphis fan. I assume Memphis would not be happy with 16-12, why should other teams

Why were you making any comparison at all. Mine wasn't. It was simply my opinion that 16-12, while better than a losing season, is not something to brag about. And why is this thread Memphis-UAB, when it isn't about either school

depends on the success of a program really. If a program has been down a long time and suffered through years of losing a 16-12 season would be a great season, but with a program like Memphis for example, it would be horrendous.
