Cary was the one who started the change here. She was a great AD.

She stuck with Coach Novak which was a gamble that worked out

Compher did not have a huge mess. Phillips was a tremendous AD, look at what he's doing at Northwestern. I think Compher has kept the ship on track, but also added some good coaches. Where Compher lacks is where Phillips shined, his ability to make the small donor feel like they are important. With Phillips, he saw every donor as a potential $1 million dollar donor at some point in their lives. Compher has not reached out to me at all in his tenure. I've really felt like a second class donor since he took the job.
Phillips was in a word...Horrendous. I have to admit I have taken some pleasure in seeing him fail at NU

2 real dumb thoughts in 1 statement...
1) Phillips was not horrendous, he laid a lot of the ground work that has led to the recent success of NIU athletics

2) Phillips hasn't been a failure at NU. They have that new facility they are building for athletics that will help them more in the future with recruiting (a la the Yorden Center and IPF)

she was and i knew her well. But she knew her limitations at NIU and made a good move to Nev. She, at that time was not in the class Phillips was. She made the most important non descion in NIU football. Don't fire Coach Niovak

Phillips hired Ricardo Patton....who left the BB program is a hopeless state

to this day, i beleive the decision was heavely influenced by someone we all know and love in altgeld

I believe that also. It still amazes me how much power EW has at NIU. He is untouchable.

Good and bad with Cary. Good Coach N, bad staff decisions in AD Admin, and terrible execution of Convo project. We could have had so much more in better location with more thought put into the project.

We likely will not get a new AD until after our new president takes office...or is able to pick a new AD before he actually takes office

We could easily have the Assistant ADs running things for several months.

Its so important that our new President be pro Athletics like Peters, especially if he/she(god forbid) will be picking a new AD at some point.

Deos anyone know the finalist list? I think we need to get a polite/organized message out to Peters and the Board reminding them of the alumni support of athletics and its importance in driving donations and alumni relations...

In all reality, a short list for AD has existed since last year. Gerald O Dell is not on the list.

Neither am I. They said that I am too fat and ugly, and that I carry too much baggage with my ties to the Grotto. They do not realize that if I were to get the job, the Grotto would be our biggest sponsor. I was already planning a promotion to give all fans a pocket rocket for our game at Toledo this year. Oh well, guess it's just not to be. I'll just have to put all my faith into becoming the next Pope instead.

Since we are going down this path...

Who do we want as a new AD?

AD from smaller school who has made a big impact
OR
Assistant AD from an AQ school who has made as much of an impact as an Assistant AD can
OR
One of our current Assistant ADs

I don't know too much about this job, but IMO no way we should or will hire one of our own assistant ADs. I hope we bring in an Assistant AD from an AQ school, I think their connections will help further down the road in scheduling, which everyone here complains about. I can't think of any smaller schools AD that would be a good fit from the top of my head.

I would like a small, thin 75-year-old woman from a religious school who smokes like a chimney and got kicked out for cursing and trying to beat up the men's basketball coach.

In all seriousness, either of the first two choices would be fine with me. There is no current Asst. AD at NIU that I would like to get the job. Should be an outsider in this case. Should be someone with good fundraising skills and a personable person with a proven track record for dealing well with donors.

Who was the kid that left when Phillips was still here?
Danny White? I liked him. Where did he go?

Actually it seems that he is Buffalo's AD now.

Hoping someone among you with better connections can quickly shoot this down or get your own verification. The three links appear to be pretty solid with nothing to gain by being right or wrong, and have proven to be aware of other things a few days in advance.

IF, and that's an underlined and capital "if," it's true, then it fits with the notion that Compher's been focused on leaving and may not have put in the extra effort some of us have thought was needed when it came to football scheduling.

Seriously the OOC part of the schedule has been finished since before the 2011 season kicked off. There is no conspiracy or a lack of effort here.
