Tulsa pays 2 million for its football coaches. Those MAC schools don't pay like that.
Coaches? I assume you are talking about multiple coaches, because Tulsa sure as heck does not pay their head footballl coach 2 million

Despite an awful year for Southern Miss football, I still would take them over Tulsa. Southern Miss (or UMass) and VCU would make this a better basketball conference.

Outside of a special case like Navy, it'd be a mistake to go back to the old split sports setup. Unless VCU is ready to start preparing to move up to FBS. You might as well instead just invite VCU, ODU, WKU and Charlotte for basketball-only in that case with them pledging to move up to FBS ball within 3-4 years.

Bill Blankenship is earning 800,000. Only 800k as a new coach coming from the High School ranks.
Tulsa I know was previously paying over 1 million for a HC. They've shown over the years a strong commitment to FBS.

Old Dominion needs to be the next school in line after Tulsa, not Rice, and Cincinnati would be fine in a West Division since their old pals Memphis are there. Temple has concerns about travel costs, and Old Dominion would help a little without adding another school in the Northeast, since the fear of UConn leaving works against UMass. Old Dominion also gives East Carolina a sensible geographical rival and opens up Virginia for recruiting.

IMO, this is going to be an interesting decision from Tulsa... from a business/cost accounting standpoint it makes no sense for Tulsa to join the big east, but from an athletic point of view, they would keep pace with current defectors. This will be a very interesting decision, what do you sacrifice?

Rice brings a top 20 baseball program, great academics, but not much more and they share the "market" with Houston. I think someone has been getting into the green corn up in Ohio.
Rice is 3-1 all-time against Southern Miss.
