This could directly affect C-USA.

After seeing the result of their tv negotiations, will the nBE wise up and expand to 12 with the most sensible choice or will they go after another market?

Tulsa and UMass seem to be the front runners but I could defintely see schools like Ohio, Marshall, ODU, USM, UAB and others in the running, if they want to be.

Supposed statements by Temple people (off the record and from the realignment board) indicate they think they've been screwed pretty bad by the nBE and want the conference to expand in the northeast or they won't support expansion and may even consider leaving.

For Temple it may not be a bad proposition if the C7 invited their Bball team.

For Temple that would be a win win. They were able to play and compete with most upper level MAC school and beat the lower level schools. Last year when they started playing better competition it didn't go so well. They had 4 wins last year.

South Florida (3-9)
UConn (5-7)
Army (2-10)
IAA Villanova (8-4)

Nova's biggest win last year was most likely ODU.

If the C7 now would invite Temple it would be their best option. They are always going to be a basketball school, with little to no emphasis on football. They are in the city of Philly and will never have their own stadium, they are always going to draw 17-20K in 68K seat stadium.

I think Villanova being in the C-7 will keep Temple out.

Ive read the C7 board some. And Nova's stance (Admin) has changed somewhat over the last few years. I think they would let Temple in. Now St Joe's is another story, they have already said they would block them.

The MAC wouldn't allow Temple in as a football-only member.

Why not? Wouldn't it get them some TV money?

USM was a big supporter for ECU in joining Cusa and we have a long history of playing each other for several seasons. Whatever conference either team joins I hope we continue our play. Last season was not the true USM team and I look for USM being a darkhorse favorite to win Cusa title this football season.........go Eagles:)

Anyway you cut it for USM, ECU is the perfect OOC opponent in all three sports...however, because you play both in-state teams in UNC and NC State in football, that may meet with some opposition by some as it would only give one opportunity per year for a "different" school. Is a no-brainer in the other two sports.

Thy were Football only from 2005-2011. And they would let them back in. There are at 13 members right now.

RE: OT: Aresco, after Firday meeting, said league will likely go to 12.
The C7 rumor only has 2 teams, Xavier and Butler, and neither team has announced anything. UConn and Temple and Cinci have to be gut-wrenched thinking about being stuck in the "New Metro" for basketball. I could easily see those 3 schools deciding that they could make more money by going to the Big East and cobbling something together with their football schools.

For example, Big East 13 = C7 + UConn, Temple, Cinci, Memphis, Xavier, Butler. That is a Top-dollar basketball conference with multiple major markets owned, and 5 football schools. Add ODU and USF to the Atlantic 10, keep Charlotte plus UMass and you have 9 Football schools that can form a football conference while keeping the basketball in top-flight conferences (Big East and A-10). That football schedule is not much different than what the Big East has right now, and the A-10 goes along because it stops their bleeding. Biggest dilemma is when/if UConn and Cinci leave for the next conference.

We will never play ecu again once we are in different conferences. And we shouldn't. OoC games come in two varieties; the opportunity for a high profile win, and likely wins/tune up games. Ecu is neither. Look how long it took for us to play Louisville (and the track record of annual success that they had to achieve) again, and they were bigger rivals than ecu is now.

I wish they would add UMass, I would laugh my ass off. Then, when Cincy and UConn leave, UMass and Temple can sit up in the northeast on their island and ***** and moan. You think Temple admins are pissed now, how do you think they will feel if they get UMass and lose Cincy and UConn? Looking at what has happened to Temple being deserted by all of the big east members, UMass may want to think carefully before signing up for that train wreck.

The Big East will add whatever team helps keep Navy on board.

Navy has played UMass once and Tulsa twice in football. Total speculation, but Navy probably prefers another private school in the league. They like playing private schools.

Navy has played 12 games against Rice, 16 against SMU, 19 against Tulane, 12 against Wake Forest, 8 against Vandy, 29 against BC, 39 against Duke, 85 against Notre Dame, etc.
