NIU PER
Not sure how many people are familiar with PER on the board, it stands for player efficiency rating. John Hollinger (formerly of ESPN, now VP Basketball Operations with the Grizzlies) came up with it to be able to compare basketball players on an apples-to-apples measure. It was developed for the NBA, but I thought I'd check to see if they had it for college basketball as well. Here is NIU's contribution to the top 100 in the MAC...keep in mind 15 is average. The MAC's top player is Javon McCrea from Buffalo, who has a 30.99 PER.

#54 Aksel Bolin - 13.26
#77 Darrell Bowie - 10.67
#80 Keith Gray - 10.27
#87 Sam Mader - 9.13
#88 J.J. Cravatta - 9.10
#94 Kevin Gray - 8.45
#96 Travon Baker - 8.06
#98 Mike Davis - 7.75

Doesn't this just make you sad? Also, how overrated is Nader? Not even good enough to be in the top 100? Ouch.

Makes sense as he is basically asked to do more than he is capable of and his efficiency suffers as a result. The turnovers are what kill him but you can't really fault the guy too much, our #1 assist guy is Balls with 2.0 assists but 1.5 turnovers per game. We really have no one that can handle the rock and set people up. Everyone is trying to create their own or chuck it up from a distance. Tough to win that way, especially with no paint presence to clean up the misses.

I would still take Nader over any of those guys though if I had to pick one guy on the current team to build around.

"Asked to do more than he is capable of". What a crock.

Just because you're bad at math doesn't mean it's a joke. Does it have its flaws? Sure. Is it a great way to compare basketball players regardless of position, team, pace, and minutes played? Absolutely.

No. It's a joke.

Andre Drummond and Andre Blatche are 14th and 15th in PER in the NBA this year. Rajon Rondo and Kevin Love are 53rd and 54th. Pau Gasol and Steve Nash are 110 and 111th.

I agree with 7 on this. Nader may be overrated, but he is by far the best player on our team. Idc if he's PER is low, but he is the MVP of NIU.

"Lies, damned lies, and statistics"
is a phrase describing the persuasive power of numbers, particularly the use of statistics to bolster weak arguments. It is also sometimes colloquially used to doubt statistics used to prove an opponent's point.
