I wonder what this means for automatic tourney bid?

The new Metro will still have auto-bids and a one year BCS entry.

While not probably a huge component, it may also negatively impact their TV deal without the "name recognition" of the "Big East." Obviously, the programs involved are the bigger issue for the TV deal, but it can't help matters to lose that name.

The conference is a mess.


I understand that all of us in the Go5 are in the same boat when it comes to defections because when one of those conferences comes calling the team is gone. The basketball split was something of a unique situation and I wasn't too upset to see them go. It made the focus of the conference more narrow. Then Boise and SDSU left which was understandable from their perspective but still a black eye for the conference. How the name is now let go to a group of teams that left is beyond me. At this point I have no idea what Aresco is there for. The nBE (or whatever it will be called) could seemingly do just as well without a commissioner.

It is such a loose association of teams now with next to no stability in any phase (common goals, money, name) I just don't get the point of it at all. I think the C-USA schools have made a serious mistake at this point. Sure C-USA had it's problems but it was moving in the right direction. That conference is essentially starting from day 1 now.

We tried to tell them but they were too busy chasing the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow to notice what was actually happening.

So when does the Big East board give up the name so the C7 board can have it?

That is going to be one hell of a basketball league. Adding Butler alone is a great addition. The Big East will remain a very strong basketball league. In my opinion Memphis should join the Big East and they would be better off. Just park the other sports somewhere else.

Basically, the best of CUSA + USF, Temple.

Infinitely better than the CUSA bottom dwellers, a few FCS startups, and some random Sun Belters.

It cracks me up that people feel bad for those 3. USF and Cincy were in C-USA 8 years ago. UConn basketball has had an unfortunate situation but their football was FBS. Hell USF has only had a football program since 1997. I think incredibly lucky is the way to describe USF.

Cincy is what it is. Schools could have stuck with C-USA in 2005 and arguably been better than the Big East but it wasn't going to happen. None of us (ECU included) have been able to say no when twice we had the opportunity to all but end Big East football. I don't feel sorry for anyone in the conference. We all made our own beds.

I don't know how this name change will affect any future FedEx involvement but the Marketing guru there is an Ole Miss guy riding shotgun on the Hugh Freeze bandwagon who also chaired the search committee.

I might even bury the hatchet and make an appeal to Massaro and McPhee not to veto Memphis if they want to some back home where they belong.

If the shoe fits...............

I'm happy to have MTSU on board. They were an upgrade.

There are schools you could potentially make that argument with, but I don't think MTSU is one of them.
