This UC fan thinks a home conference schedule with Notre Dame, Memphis, Louisville, Temple, UConn, Houston, USF, UCF, SMU, and Rutgers is better than our current home schedule this season that didn't include Louisville or Syracuse.

I'm pretty sure the Notre Dame AD said that if the C7 leave in 2013 Notre Dame would have to rethink staying itself. Of course that means even more exit fees. And it means at least UConn, Cincinnati, and South Florida would reap multiple millions.

Don't know the details but I wonder if this is beginning to look a little like the breaking apart of the old Southwest Conference.

That's true re the exit fee money, but it's not true re the name change.

Yup. Im sensing a backroom deal where UConn, Cinci, and Temple slide to the C7. Like I said, that would make it very easy for the C-7 to start play in 2013. If those teams get an ACC bid, no big deal, the C-7 wasnt expecting to start its long term line up of the C7+ Butler, Xavier, and VCU until 2014 or 2015 anyway. Ive had a bad feeling ever since the 2 million dollar numbers started floating about. At 2 million, this league doesnt make alot sense for anyone with any options at all. The C7 is a viable option for some--even Memphis might have to at least investigate the option.

IDK, but if the incoming schools walk the Big East dissolves and all the exit fees and NCAA credits go back to the schools that earned them. The leftover schools will have nothing if not for the incoming schools, so it makes little sense to try to screw them. I'm sure a little negotiating and we will all get what is necessary to hold things together.

Why would you try to reason, its much better to just escalate on the doomsday scenarios that have taken over this thread.

Sorry -- I can't see UConn and Cincinnati since they have bigger football conferance aspirations. Now Temple and maybe Memphis - a different matter.

Tell me this --- if it works out for the parties involved directly why can't they agree to sit down with the idea of reaching some agreement that benefits all of them? That's what we're talking about here --- and it's a real possibility in my mind.

Sorry - a bit more specific --- "I'll be allowed to leave today and pay you (the Big East) 5 million rather than 10 million in 2014. That way you have the 5 million in the bank when you vote to dissolve the conference."

Well, I think UConn and Cinci believe they won't be in the BE very long regardless of what happens. So, maybe they do a year or two in the MAC, maybe they can continue to house football in the BE. Maybe the MW floats them a football only membership with no entry fee. I'm just saying, if they wanted to, that option is open. As for why would they do that---- The details of the contract have been sealed and guarded like the Oscar winner envelopes. Maybe the deal is even worse than we imagine.

Who knows what going on? For all we know nothing is going on. They might be about to announce we signed a great tv deal, added Tulsa and Navy for 2014, are going to get extra money through clauses in the contract, and we are going to keep the name. Lol....But the way the last two years have gone--- thats less likely than something crappy is going on.

No -- I'm asking why the C7 would invite UConn and Cincinnati since it's clear they have zero intention of staying. UConn wants ACC or Big 10. Cincinnati wants ACC. Both a probably going to happen at some point IMO. Not so with Temple. And Memphis ---- hell, we might as well admit it sooner rather than when it's too late -- Memphis too.

Please, can anybody tell me why would UConn and UC want to disband the league and join the MAC and forfeit the basketball units from those leaving, waive the exit fees from Rutgers,UL,ND and finally give up the BCS AQ status for next year.

Doesn't make sense all these scenarios you guys keep coming up with

The simple answer is because they can start in 2013. UConn, Temple, and Cinci all go to the C7 and the lights to the BE get turned off. Most likely, it wouldn't happen exactly that way. But--they would have the ability to do it. The threat of doing it is probably enough to get what they really want.

My guess is that to avoid lawsuits and ugliness, they negotiate a deal where the BE lights stay on, but the exit fees are waived (probably the entry fees too), they leave behind cash to cover most of the newbie exit fees, and keep the conference solvent--the C 7 gets thier NCAA credits, and the name. Just speculation, but when the contract came in that low, it opened the door to a lot do alternatives that didn't make sense a month ago.

First, tell me why two or three or ten institutions can't come together and agree to exchange value for value received outside of the rules of the NCAA. That's ALL I'm talking about. Second, than tell me why UConn and Cincinnati can't / won't vote to dissolve if it's in their interest to do so, reap the millions, and reform the / a conference with all of the schools who now have no conference to land within? Re-invite the whole gang and maybe Army. I mean if it's worth ten million or so to each of the schools -- why not?

EDIT -- And look --- I'm not advocating this or even making it the most likely outcome. I doubt it is -- but you're making it sound like it's crazy talk --- and I doubt it is.

Because as I pointed out they would lose too much. UConn and UC are NOT going to give up playing one more year in an AQ league and getting part of that 22 million pay out unless they are invited to ACC.
Disbanding the league is NOT a good financial decision specially for schools tat are counting on being in the ACC within three years.

This supposedly is not a situation where the schools are leaving Supposedly, this is a "split" So at least half of the money from left behind units is going to the C7, perhaps more since the C7 make up 70% of the membership. Same with the exit fees. Plus, the Rutgers/Louisville exit fees will be shared with 8 other members. Without knowing what's in that prenup, nobody knows exactly how lucrative staying behind might be. This whole "split" concept is really uncharted waters. In a normal situation, you have a good point--not to say you still don't--just saying the split aspect might muddy the water and allow them to move assets to the C7 before joining the C7 (and getting a split of the spoils that way).

Maybe they do maybe they don't --- where we differ it seems is that you seem to think it's a slam dunk on one side while I don't see any slam dunks at all --- oh well. :)

One thing we have heard over and over again is that the C7 leaving early will cost them. Nobody has disagreed on that. If you disband the league UL,Cuse,ND,Pitt and WV regain their basketball units. As I said before you are also giving up your 22 million AQ football status. For UConn and UC which are counting in NOT being around within three years it makes no sense to give up that just to cast themselves with the C7 for two- three years.
Most likely scenario is the C7 deciding to leave early and working a deal to play UC,UConn and USF in out of conference deals instead of paying the exit penalty.
The exit money, basketball units of those departing and Big East name will be divided in some form between those 10 schools. I could see the entrance fees of those coming in being reduced or waive as part of the deal.
