Message board power!!
Can we please stop with thinking that message boards have as much power as some think!!! If our coach leaves here because we have some negative people on a message board that may or may not even be Tiger fans then we could all agree we had the wrong guy. It is about players, level of commitment from the admin, advantages and perks a coach has, fanbase and chance to win nationally, not that some people on a message board hurt his feelings. I wish it were all roses like some want but the notion that this board is going to drive our players to transfer and our coaches to leave is really dumb. We had 17k at Southern Miss and maybe 100-150 a day on here, hardly a total representation of the fanbase.

We all come here to talk Tigers, mostly good and some bad, that will never change.

RE: Message board power!!
The only power I think a message board has is to talk about things Tiger related with other people who want to talk about things Tiger related (or whatever the subject of the board is).

At the same time, anyone who says the message board talk didn't lead to more controversy that lead to more issues, wasnt the cause of the Fulmer fire, didn't watch that progress.

I am also willing to say the mess stirred on this very message board started the tornado that went through the UofM administration and ended with Tom Bowen.

The local media jumped all over the message board topic and Geoff Calkins RAN with it. In fact, if you want to get right down to it, many here might even remember it vividly, I was the one who started it. I continued laying out my argument over and over and other people jumped onboard and it took off.

The basketball staff reads this message board. Yeah, some of the mental midgets on here, plus what some of the CA staff has done, plus the letters to the editor, plus the moron talk show hosts in town. I would think it all weighs on Pastner.

They might be the minority, but they're a very loud (and moronic) minority.

IMO Pastner has to shoulder the burden.
He makes out in interviews that if he doesn't win 30 games then everyone is out to get him. Would he really deny that none of his teams have lived up to expectations? HIS players are the people, each season, talking about winning a National Championship. We get all this hype during the summer about how SUPER D DUPER everyone is doing and playing, etc. and then comes out and lays eggs.

We are a really good team, with really good players, and very well coached. Prove it. Beat some top 25 teams because we SHOULD be a top 25 program year in and year out. Make it to the Sweet 16, because we are a Sweet 16 program and should be year in and year out. 4 years and no top 25 wins and havent sniffed a Sweet 16.

The criticism he receives is justified in most cases.

Bro, if I wanted to get Pastner fired by using the message board, you have no idea. If you want an example go back 4 months before RC was fired and see how I can focus on getting something done.
I haven't gotten to the point I want Pastner fired. I would be happy if he took another job though. Really, I would be happy about it.

Yeah we know that. So I'm guessing you're UT football/ Tiger BB.

I know a few of those. Kinda pathetic.

So I guess the 18 game winning streak delayed your plan a little.

Must have enjoyed last night though. Congrats.

RE: Message board power!!
As much as I hate to admit it, the fodder that's thrown out on this board does have an impact. Players and staff read this board. Media members are on this this all the time looking for stuff to talk about on radio shows and in the newspaper. Hell, the owner of the Grizzlies has an account on their message board and says he likes to hear the opinions of the fans.

Message board posters represent a very small minority of the actual fan base. However, it's also the most easily accessible representation of the fan base.

It is the same at every big time coaching job in sports. If you can not handle it then find another way to make a million bucks a year.

Definition of PRETENTIOUS
1 : characterized by pretension: as a : making usually unjustified or excessive claims (as of value or standing) <the pretentious fraud who assumes he could get a coach fired by posting on a message board>

b : expressive of affected, unwarranted, or exaggerated importance, worth, or stature <pretentious language> <pretentious houses>

2: making demands on one's skill, ability, or means <the pretentious a$$ who tells everyone they have no idea how powerful he can be if he wanted coach fired>

Any of this sound familiar, bro?

It seems that way. As well as stating that nobody has any idea of his other-worldly influence on the UofM and its athletic department.

No, people had been wanting him gone for years. You seem to think the world revolves around you and your opinions. I started the RC talk blah blah then he got fired. Bro, you have no idea of what I'm capable of if I wanted Pastner fired blah blah. Funny how all the garbage you were spewing about Pastner went away during the streak and with one loss....boom- right back to normal. Man, that streak must've killed you.

So that's where you got the idea!

No they don't. But I bet that if you focused you could get this whole board flexing. Maybe you can do that during our next winning streak.
