11,109 attendance on a Wednesday nite game. Nothing mid-major about tonite's game. MAC has to be hoping for Ohio-Akron final. They might get 15 k for that one.

I watched the last 2 minutes of regualtion and the OT, Yes, this was a great game. However, in regards to your last comment, I also watched the Miami-BG game, and that game showed just how bad this league is. The one Miami fan who went to the game described it as watching two team who looked like they were playing under water. Miami made 2 of 12 threes and 6 of 15 free throws (we missed our last 6 free throws down the stretch) and got outrebounded by like 17 and still had a chance to win in the last minute. I really can't see how either one of these teams wins again this year, unless they meet in a first round tournament game.
Just reading that it struck me how significant last night was. A ranked opponent on the road vs 11,000+. I don't care if the MAC is "down", everything about that is big time.
Let's win some more NCAA games so the Gonzaga/St Mary's analogies start popping up. :D

Ohio proves again it has a high major home atmosphere.
Great win for Akron last night. Excellent college basketball game. Don't listen to anyone who tries to tell you Akron isn't a lock if they win out until the MACC... 27 wins and an RPI as high as they will have (35 now) is a tournament lock. 100%

I was at the Game last night and the 11,000 plus fans created an atmosphere that was big time. Only the Miami games from the 90's topped last night for me. Had game been on a weekend the game might have surpassed those Mamie games but those crowds topped 13,000 and even had people being turned away because fire Marshall ordered the gates closed.
Akron has a hell of a team. The biggest difference I saw with the Zips was their ability to knocked down 3's and the improved play of Treadwell. I really thought once the game got to OT without Marshall the game would be Ohio's. Now here is a question about the tournament. I think Kent will get the 4th seed and there by play the Zips in the semis and Ohio will draw WMU. Am I correct? If so the Akron-Kent semi will be a barn burner. The Zips should win but Kent has shown improvement and right now I believe they are clearly the MACS 3rd best team.
Looking forward to an Ohio-Akron rematch in the finals. Should be one hell of a crowd and atmosphere. I hope Akron's wins out until the rematch.

If you have the semifinals all set, is there any need for the other teams to show up for the tournament?

Not quite, our record attendance at Millett in the nineties was 10,091 against Xavier in 1995. Still, it's so hard to think of how far we've fallen since then, and the fact we were rated the 47th best program of all time a few years ago shows how basketball was relevant for some time.

according to Ohio's Dir of Marketing the Akron game set a record for student attendance at the Convo. He didn't mention the exact number but said it was "greater than 5,000". The previous record was set at last year's Miami game when Gary Trent was honored.

It is actually sad how far Miami has fallen in basketball. Those games in the 90's were awesome to attend. Not only would the Convo be over flow but when Ohio would go to Millett it would be packed as well. I know a lot of people loved Charlie Coles, but I am of the opinion that Miami's decision to keep him severely damaged that program. He left that program in a deep hole that will take some time to dig out of. The good news Miami is a great school with a lot of tradition which should help it out. Unlike the hole Ohio had to dig out of in football, it could turn around in a couple years. A football program can take a decade.
I may be one if the few Ohio fans that want Miami to return to prominence in football and basketball. Nothing would make me happier to see Miami finishing second to Ohio! :)
