Personally, I want a 16 seed.
Make history and gets some damn confidence. Not positivity. Confidence. The fact is our league sucks, our coaches protestations aside. Our players have demonstrated mental lapses throughout their entire careers (see Joe last year, Tarik this year) and you can see the fear in them in any game that is outside of our comfort zone (CUSA). It happened in Maui, it happened in the NCAA, it happened in Bahamas, it happened vs Louisville and against a mediocre Xavier team.
There are not any world beaters in NCAA basketball this year, and we have the talent and depth and coaching to play with any of them. We dont have the mentality. So give us the impossible task of being a 16 to beat a 1. Give us somethign that can't be done and then lets go out and do it. Free of the expectations of the Calipari years. Free of the pressure of the talking heads demanding we prove we aren't a CUSA team, when we are in fact a CUSA team with really, really good talent. Be who we are and let that be enough, because it is. We are a good team that cracks under pressure. So remove teh pressure for once and then look out.

Well it's impossible for us to get a 16 seed.

RE: Personally, I want a 16 seed.
I actually wouldn't mind a low seed, like 10-13. We seem to play better with a chip on our shoulder. If we were a 13 seed, then there wouldn't be any expectations for us to win a game. A win or two in the tourney would get us big exposure as the most underrated team in the nation, while a loss wouldn't really draw negative press.
Since this is a down year overall for college basketball, I don't think there is any team we couldn't beat on any given night. A low seed in this year's tourney isn't such a bad thing.

Actually, you want something lower/higher than an 8/9 - those are tough seeds.
Maybe we should take a dive in the tourney and try for an 10/11...

12 or 11 would be the best at this point.

Well, it is both a novel and intriguing thought! Why not be the FIRST to advance?

I will go with "or something" for 500, Alex.
Actually, I think the jury is in, this team for whatever the reason can not bear the burden of great expectations. I do not think this is based on physical limitations but rather mental ones. The answer then is to remove the expectations. There are no expectations for a 16 to beat a 1, therefore that is a better position mentally for our team to be in. Added in, to win the tourney you will have to beat a top team at some point, plus if you happened to defeat the one seed (again which i think we are physically capable of doing) you then get the low seed path the rest of the way through the tourney.
Now obviously we will not get a 16 seed. But the lower the seed the better, because honestly if we get a 5 seed, the national media would (and be totally justified in doing so) pick us as the upset special.
I fail to see the downside in a lower seed, and with this particular team I see massive downside in going into the tourney as any sort of overdog.

I'm honestly for taking a dive to get a conference mate in and avoid the 8/9.

The only glaring downside I can see to being a 16 seed is playing a 1 seed.
Maybe I'm wrong

No way the NCA arse holes take a chance on Memphis putting one of their #1 seeds out of the tournament the first round.
