While this is a tough loss to swallow as a fan, I like the fact that the guys battled hard after halftime...there is hope yet for this terrific group of players.

The core group is basically 75% through their careers. Fact is they flat out choked at the FT line or they would be coming home winners.....but they're not. They either make it to the Sweet 16 or the season is a failure. We have too much experience to choke at the line like this.

Agreed, but they can be creative when it comes to disdain. I'm putting my 2¢ on a #9 seed facing #8 St. Louis. They're that cynical and capable.

Saint Louis is headed for a much higher seed than #8, so don't worry. It will probably be #12 Memphis vs. #5 Saint Louis.

Depends on what happens @ UCF and @ UTEP. Lose those two, we will indeed need to win the C-USA tournament to get in.

There is no other way to look at it.

Hate to say it but its true.

I long for the day that we are allowed to lose a road game without it destroying our season. According to some anyway.

This is a good team. We played a bad first half and still had a shot at the end.

I figured we would lay an egg at some point. Was hoping it would be in conference.

I'd rather lose to Xavier on the road than a CUSA team at home.

I would have prefered taking a loss at any one of the 3 CUSA games left on the schedule than the Xavier loss. This is the proof the national media/selection committee needs to say that all of our CUSA wins are paper wins.

I agree with you. How bout that?

Unlike all the other "hey lokkit my opinion" redundant threads, this is something I can get behind.

Yep, but that also goes for the media who has jumped on our bandwagon lately. Now they have to go into work and get razzed by their co-workers who have been against us during the run. It makes them less likely to want to jump on the bandwagon when we start winning again. No doubt about it, this one hurts way more than it should.

I wouldn't kid yourself. If we were to lose another regular season game and before the CUSA finals, there would be a lot of people who sincerely believe Memphis isn't an NCAA team. It would be a legitimately sweaty selection Sunday.

I am discouraged. I'll admit it.

This was a potentially devastating loss. If the team gets mad and plays like it, then all possibilities are still there. But if this is indicative of the heart and soul of the team, then it was crushing. No way to know until we get to UCF.

Only good thing out of this loss... It was a "close" loss

At the end, we beat ourselves... Xavier gave us so many chances to beat them and still we couldn't win this game..

I am OK with Tarik, you know what you get with him as far as offense but he is a liability at the FT line... 0-5 from the FT??? For real Tarik??? :yikes:

RE: F-R-A-U-D
It is quite amazing that 1 loss will resonate louder- to many of our "fans," than 18 wins.

Let's ignore everything good...because the kids dropped a game.

Actually happened last year.

Perception is the team was selfish etc...after dropping to SLU. Which ignores that they waylayed 7 opponents in a row with "beautiful basketball" before that game.

Played poorly tonight, and lost. It stinks and it hurts. And the venting is normal. But- try and stay on the good side, which is support even with recognition of a poor effort.

I am guessing the game thread is full of Thomas crushing and Joe bashing and even maybe some destruction of the non-Memphis players who usually get a pass.

Prefer to just express frustration at a bad effort and poor concentration for stretches, than to mock our own kids.

Correct, the douche bags will refer to a team that won 18 in a row, 22 of 23 and many of those over stronger teams than Xavier as a fraud...but it is incorrect.

But yes, F them, and get some wins in the tourney. A likely 30-4 or 29-5 team a fraud. That will bash the hell out of a few teams in March.
