RE: Jerseyguy on ECU Pirate Radio this afternoon
I went to school with Troy D. and Ellerbe. They are good guys. Good for them that they are doing what they want to do. They had the nads to buy their own AM station after college and devote their time solely to Pirate Athletics.

They are active in the Greenville Community, have entertaining guests, a good rapport with all the ECU coaches; not just the major sports. Troy Dreyfus had a video clip on facebook where he was spiking a volleyball with a set from the volleyball coach. He has challenged women's basketball coach Heather Macy to a one-on-one. They have participated in the Ruffin McNeil fantasy football camp.

They were the ones who set up an interview with the Chairman of the Liberty Bowl to discuss his comments on ECU and now Mark Bladschun.

I enjoy their pre-game football coverage as well as the fifth-quarter call-in show.

All in all, they do a great job. Pirate Radio is an asset to ECU, the Greenville community and Pirate fans. I think it's awesome that we have an independent sports-talk radio station devoted solely to ECU. I was under the impression that most schools had the same.

They started that station with their on $$$ and every coach has been on. Plus they have had many national guests. Many local TV sports announcers have had their on show on there. Plus I've heard many of breaking news from them.
Love how ECU fans put down everything ECU. No wonder the other schools put us down all the time.

I would love for Memphis to have a radio show like that! I certainly know what you mean about dumb*** fans. I suggested such a show on our messageboard and received nothing but negative replies (as usual).

They truly are dedicated to ECU and the city of Greenville. I think people complaining they don't break news are those like me who spend far too much time on message boards following this stuff daily. I'm sure for those that don't they've broken plenty of news.

That's one of my beefs with PR. They act like they ARE fratboys and still dress like it to boot. It's just not a very professionally run operation IMO. Granted much better than I could do but I'd like to see them step it up a little.

They also treat everybody interviewed with "kid gloves" as another poster said, as if they're afraid to ask the real questions that everybody wants the answers to.

Don't get me wrong.....SOME of it is OK or even good (Peach Bowl team dedication) but it benefits from being a monopoly in a small market moreso than b/c of running a comparatively GOOD radio show.

Can't believe the thread turned into to this. But when in Rome. I like the Pirate Radio very much. I live in DC so its great for me to be able to catch up on ECU sports. It is unusual for a mid major like ECU to have its own station devoted to Pirate sports. I think they do a great job. Stop complaining Pirate fans. If you don't like them, just don't listen to them.

Um.. The Real Pirate Radio is Seton Hall, 89.5fm, South Orange. Thirty years as The Hardest Rock Around. Everything else is easy listening.

I wish we had something like this for U of Houston. We usually come in behind the Astros, the Rockets, the Texans, UT, Texas A&M, and the Dynamo. I've always admired ECU's fan loyalty.

MLS soccer is getting very big in several markets, and IMO, may pass the NHL in popularity at some point. The Seattle Sounders average like 40K fans a game for soccer.

I agree, I knew Troy as well. I met Troy his last year in school when I pledged SAE. We became friends and even roommates my last 1.5 years at ECU. He bought the station from Hank Hinton and has done a great job supporting ECU and the community. He bleeds purple and gold. He is a jokester as that is his personality. We cracked jokes on him all the time because it was so easy, but he took them all in good stride and could dish them back on occasion.

Pirate Radio is an asset to ECU and not many schools can boast that they have an actual private radio station that promotes their universities athletic program. It is something that I think we take for granted.

The Dynamo are pretty big in Houston. They contend for MLS championship, have a nice new stadium.

Someone missed the point... they aren't a music station. They call themselves Pirate Radio and are basically local talk/sports talk radio. They offer a lot of ECU based athletics programming outside the radio broadcasts of the actual games.

Pirate Radio does an awesome tailgate show during football home games. I think its unusual for a school to have two local radio stations covering Pirate football complete with their own pregame and postgame shows. UNC and State don't have that.

Oh I got the point dude. You have to realize that as a longtime RU/BE/Jersey kind of a guy, my perspective and humor is just different than yours. It's just when I hear Pirates and Knights, I think SHU & RU; not ECU & UCF. All these new neighbors will take some getting used to. Then again since the "Sold' sign is already on my front lawn and we just bought in BIG, I"ll be the new kid in town soon.

I understand where you're coming from. ....it's just that they aren't "hard hitting journalists". I don't think that's the sort of role they are looking to play. I think they are more about fun and entertainment.
