Hope they have the security situation under control...15 year old kid was murdered in Railroad Park this weekend. It doesn't matter how nice the ballpark is if fans can't be confident that they will be safe.

And two people were murdered in Hoover today. Didn't stop a single person from going to the Galleria

Was the murder right next door to the Galleria? No. Pointless analogy.

There have been in the past. At any rate, you've got just as much chance to get killed in your car on the highway today as you do getting shot at Railroad Park or at a Barons Game. Downtown is among the safest neighborhoods in the metro area. At one point beating Mountain Brook.

"At one point beating Mountain Brook."

I wonder if the bad guys were traveling to Mt. Brook to do their crimes?

Hmmmm? Naw, they wouldn't do that.

Willie Sutton was a pro...the idiot gang bangers/wannabes are just idiots with guns and attitudes. Idiots can ruin anything when they have guns. Guns don't kill people... but idiots with guns do it every dadgum day.

Does that make the statistic any less valid?

Anyway, if you're too scared to come to the Barons games, then don't bother coming to any UAB games, and please feel free to stop cluttering up Blazertalk with your posts.

Mixy.... I'm so sorry to challenge your infinite wisdom.

Which is safer, birmingham or mt brook ? Oh, I don't know. Using your stats and logic - Bham is.

Well since Birmingham is physically twelve times larger and by population 10 times larger than Mountain Brook, only an idiot would compare Birmingham as a whole to Mountain Brook. Neighborhoods, like Southside and the City Center, are more comparable units, and, the City Center neighborhood has had, multiple years, a lower crime rate than Mountain Brook.

With supporters like you, who needs the Board of Trustees?

If I remember correctly, the stat of "B'ham is safer than Mtn. Brook" was based on crimes committed in the 24 +/- block downtown area vs. Mtn. Brook as a whole. Kinda jaded since downtown has a police force/CAP many times greater than Mtn. Brook and is a ghost town (for the most part) after dark. Mnt. Brook has many more people, homes, shopping disticts, and much greater area to police. And most of the crimes committed in Mtn. Brook are committed by "guests" of the community. (Many who leave Birmingham to commit their crimes in the Tiny Kingdom.)

Since the baseball park and UAB aren't in Ensley, I'm not interested in comparing the crime rate of that area, unlike apparently many here and everyone on al.com.

All I know is that I took my brother to see Railroad Park for the first time and show him what Birmingham could have to offer (he's considering moving here)...and two hours later somebody was shot there (and later died).

Lord, how did any of us survive growing up in Birmingham?

What gets me is all the people who disdain the city so damn much at the same time depend on it so much for their suburban livelihood.

I get why the rest of the state hates Birmingham. What I don't get is why people who spend more waking hours there than in their homes hate it so much.

Birmingham Barons announce ballpark parking plan, stress safety after recent murder
http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2013/03/birm...er_default

I think D on the diagram is the parking lot going in at what would have been the northern end of the OCS...
