Road Trip to Cucumber HQ
Toledo is playing well.

Winners of 7 of their last 8 games. Only loss was by 5 points at Buffalo.

Here is the good news...5 of those wins have been by single digits. Only BGSU and McNeese St have been by double digits, each 13 point victories.

We really took them to the woodshed when we played them at UA over a month ago. 23 point win for the Broncos. I wouldn't expect much of the same. Toledo is too good offensively and winning on the road is always an issue.

Pearson and Brown are the best guard/wing combo in the league.

Hutch played his tail off in the first game. Held Pearson to 4/13 from the field and 8 points. That's a full 10 points under his season average. If we are going to win on Wednesday, we will need the same type of effort. Holding him to single digits isn't likely, nor needed...but we need to make it extremely hard for him to score.

If WMU really wants to be in the discussion as a top 3 team in the MAC this year...this game is a must. Toledo isn't eligible for the postseason, or apparently a MAC West banner if they win or share. But if we drop this game...we drop down to the 4th best IMO. And honestly, that would be very frustrating at this point.

Stat of the last game....WMU out rebounded them by 18.

We have a noticeable size advantage...again. Time to exploit it and hit the boards.

This was also the game that David Brown hit 5 threes...it was basically his coming out party for this year.

No need to dwell on the past though. Everything starts over in two days.

WMU wins if they bring energy and are physical. Toledo isn't a great defensive team. Gotta take care of the ball and avoid unforced turnovers.

Toledo wins if our Broncos refuse to bring the energy. Or, if we play horrible defense on Juice Brown.

This is NOT just another game. I'm not interested in backing into the #3 seed because the team in front of us had APR issues 3 years ago.

Time to take care of business....

WMU 73
Toledo 72

*Shayne gets fouled at the end of the game and hits the go ahead free throws with 3 seconds left on the clock.

Correction, the Buffalo loss was by 15 03-banghead. But hopefully this year's series plays out like last year when UT lost by 22 @ WMU, then beat WMU by 9 @ UT. 02-13-banana

Must have read that wrong.

But yeah, I'm well aware of what happened last year. 03-banghead

Wins have been few and far between in Toledo. But then they were even fewer at Kent State, and we won there.

I too want to go into Cleveland as the clear #3 seed and the undisputed MAC champion based on wins.

I re-iterate... limit turnovers and make your free throws. Stay the course!

Toledo had match up problems with us here. They had quickness, but played small ball, and our D was able to have a hand in their face.

Their freshmen center has improved a lot (how did Hawk miss on this kid, he was on Paul's team), and that could be problematic. I see them looking at the KSU, BSU, BG tape and taking it down the lane all night for easy looks, kickouts, or fouls. Shayne needs to make them think twice about taking it in the paint.
