Most of our regular seats are discounted to $10 on game day if you donate a can of food.

That's usually just for the last couple games though, isn't it?

Are those lawn seats in your photo? I wish NIU would offer the same thing. Looks like a lot of people like the seating.

Why would people want or like lawn seating? I assume it would be cheap tix...but at the same time you're on ground level in the end zone & can't see s**t.
Good for people with little kids maybe...kids aren't as constrained.

Direct it towards families with small kids, like the Kane County Cougars do. Or town kids football leagues. Works pretty well for them.

Speaking of the Kane County Cougars, had to get my weekly Pizza Villa fix and saw that they already had Cougars schedule cards. Is there any chance whatsoever coming off an Orange Bowl appearance Northern Illinois could put schedule cards out as early as say...July? Go up and down Lincoln Highway and you'll find Kane County Cougar schedule cards everywhere. I don't remember seeing NIU football schedule cards (and no, I don't need one but that's part of marketing) at Pizza Villa until the week before last year's season opener.

Kane County mailed me a schedule last week also, they do an incredible job marketing their product. Also have a 10 voucher for $52 deal on living social 04-jawdrop

There seems to be a lot of love for the Kane County Cougars. Is it correct that they average 6200 in home attendance?

As has been stated here many times, marketing brings in the fans and money. It takes money to make money, but not a lot, relatively speaking. Schedules, posters, and mailings should be utilized to keep your name in front of the public. Selectively placed newspaper, radio, and TV ads will also do wonders (but cost a bit more). I know many of the DeKalb/Sycamore businesses would display window posters and schedules in their places of businesses.

Their season starts in 17 days. Obviously they are going to have their schedules out already.

Yes Athletics needs to do a better job with putting out the schedule cards as well as what info is on them.

HuskieJohn: You are correct in setting the record straight that Kane County should have their schedule cards out this early ... even if I just finished clearing my driveway of snow and can't get excited about baseball until after the NCAA hoops tourney.

I'll still commend the Cougars for the way they blanket their schedule cards throughout DeKalb in much the same fashion I've seen their cards at a variety of businesses in the Aurora and Naperville area. Last season, a good friend living in Arizona asked me to mail him a set of NIU football schedule cards since he has a collection dating back to the 1980s and the only way I got my hands on some was making a trip to the Convo ticket office.

Totally agree...your talking to a guy that drove 50 miles out of my way after work to pick up 500+ schedule cards and posters and then spend my own time/gas to put them up at local businesses in Glendale Heights and Bloomingdale.

I am amazed how the ticket pricing is not mentioned on the pocket/poster schedule along with the youth/senior discount. So many people think that a ticket to a single game is in the $40-$75 range.

Athletics gets the schedule cards once the times are announced...in mid June. They usually have them by early July. That is not the problem. The issue is distributing them appropriately.

If the very successful Kane County Cougars include DeKalb County as part of their marketing campaign with schedules, I would think it might be a swell idea to get NIU Schedules out to Kane County. ( With Ticket Pricing in BIG FONT! )

Fair enough.

how does a simple post about a school that draws about 10,000 and says they are going to build a 50,000 seat domed stadium, turn in to this post.

Attendance NIU? Wow it is almost impossible not to draw this conclusion.
This board does make a difference, NIU attendance is not a dead horse.
It is a live issue.

Live....to the fact of the senseless comments of why NIU doesn't draw then the inability of so many to face reality. Every year it comes up, and the demographics of the US, Chicago, DeKalb and NIU don't change. Money, alumni, history...what NIU IS what NIU is NOT.When opponent, day of the week, team record can sway attendance 10k, or 100%, how hard is it to understand? But eveyone has the answers. I just wonder how many have any background in sports business marketing or have any idea what happens outside the MAC and NIU, other than you know you hate the BCS, Big Ten, NW and "ILL-NESS"

And this board in the realm of NIU athletics? Really? 15k at home games, 20k at OB, of which what, 500 have been on this board? Please.

Yeah, 8/31 can't come fast enough, then all the authorities can stick to one thing at least....NIU FOOTBALL TEAM!

Maybe if you attended the Maryland game in 2003, you will understand what a crowd of 26 000 feels like. You are new to this board and like double huskie like to take pot shots at the veterans.
GRow up.
If you do not like the suggestions on the board come up with better ones if you can.
P.S. I have nothing against NW and like anyone who has been on this board for over 8 years know allot more then newbies like yourself(although I agree it does not make me an expert).

Crowd of 26 000 to 15000 is called a change. Pity you have not been around long enough to witness it. Try show a little more respect young man. Your presence with double huskie drives allot of older, wiser and smarter heads from this board.

The 2003 Maryland game is the measuring stick for knowledge and experience. Wow. Didn't know that. And I haven't been around long enough, since you also define being on the board since 2008 a "newbie". Sorry I haven't been on this board as long as you, had as many posts as you. Not sure how you measure "veteran" but if you have read posts I have made in the past, I have made suggestions. And perhaps you are older than 42, but following NIU for 20 years since graduation I think gives me a little credit.

I have have made suggestions from keying on western suburbs to targeting bars, restaraunts from western suburburbs around to south side and north a little. I suggested promoting group trips. Promoting homegrown players. I have went from loving the SF games to disliking them to facing the reality and need every couple years. I have mention numerous time STH get a raw deal on that game. I think weekday games suck, but if that's what you need to do for $ you do it as a conferance. But at the end of the day, I face reality. It's ok to disagree with ideas, but I don't ***** about the AD as we have made bowl games year after year and BCS game. I don't ***** about NIU not being fan friendly like the AD as a reason for lack of attendance. I don't complain about the stadium for pete's sake not having a daycare or the urinals aren't for kids and they can't go alone.Perhaps it's the same nonsense from a small group of people who seem to only read their own posts and their certain circle of admirers that drives the supposedly "wiser" away. That and a lot of nonsense that can't even be disputed without being labeled an outcast. This is much less than 1% of NIUs fanbase on here, and not more than what 10% of what I would consider solid fans.

Age may earn respect, but doesn't mean one is wise, nor smart and logical. I mean you can only live in the past so long, bring up the same stuff til it gets old. I try to make logical conslusions w/o being blinded by love of NIU or dedication to it.I have no idea where some people's "facts" come from and their opinions but they are just that. THEIRS.

I may only be a grad of 93 but I have seen plenty of NIU games as well as numerous other non-NIU college sporting events. Everyone, every program needs to set goals and move forward. If you wake up everyday and worry about NIUs attendance wows you are doing yourself a disservice.A LOT of people on here are in that boat. That and hate the AD. Ideas are great, and sure mistakes are made but if anyone thinks you can run NIU athletics better than those that did and will, you are naive. You and others make our program sound like it is in the toilet do to the stadium and attendance, while at the same time 3/4 of college football fans are admiring NIU, not to mention many collegiate coaches and officials. Sometimes you just got to do you best and face reality. Sometimes you need to analyze your own stance, as well as do a little homework before you pat yourself on the back and call out someone from an AD to a member of a college sports forum.

FYI, I had a fantasy football draft the day of the game not to mention I worked downtown at the time. We couldn't get an AM signal w/o interference, so we were calling people and checking the internet, what it was back then. Sorry missed the game. While I did attend the Iowa State game which which actually did have more people, I measure "wiseness" in experience, knowledge and abilty to make a judgment or conclusion, I don't consider "attending the Maryland" or even ISU+ "knowing what a crowd feels like" as a major asset and knowing what NIUs attendance issues are and ability to solve them.

Wow, that is something that is not talked about enough. Definitely whatever marketing they're doing isn't working. I personally have not seen any NIU marketing in Naperville. Except before the OB that group of people was in Naperville (along with a lot of other stops) handing out oranges.

Agree with you NIU007 and you made me think of another suggestion for the Huskie marketing folks ... we did get attention handing out those oranges in different locales and even got on the Chicago morning TV programs, so how about this fall we have some mini-footballs made with the Huskie logo on one side and the schedule (or at least the home dates) with ticket prices, phone number on the opposite side and hand those out instead of oranges.

Many of you will consider me to be totally weird since I'm not a big coffee drinker, but every coffee place has their logos all over their cups and yet hand out those sleeves to make it easier to hold the cup. What if we had the NIU schedule (or at least home games with ticket prices, phone number) printed on those. In addition to enhancing visiblity, when finished, you still toss the cup but the sleeve could be stuffed in a pocket as a reminder.
