Question about CUSA expansion
I didn't follow how it went down and the ins and outs of the invitations.
Nothing wrong with the schools that were added. They all brig something to the party.
Were any other schools discussed? Particularly Georgia Southern? Georgia State?
Do you think it was based on markets? Program size? Success?
Just curious y'all's take. Who would be next if you lost someone?

Were any other schools discussed? Particularly Georgia Southern? Georgia State? I think Ga. Southern's name came up, mainly because of their football program, but that's as far as it went.
Do you think it was based on markets?Yes. Program size?Perhaps. Success? More or less, on their potential and the "freshness" of most if not each of the programs in general.
Just curious y'all's take. Who would be next if you lost someone? Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee State (who I think is coming, anyway), perhaps Arkansas State or "La-La"...I personally would like to have Troy or South Alabama join C-USA, but many of my fellow Blazer Brethren doth object to that.

RE: Question about CUSA expansion
CUSA's short list is Ohio State Georgia and Arkansas. They all offer a new state and have showed moderate success recently.

I'm surprised, with all due respect, that someone hasn't snatched up Tulsa and Southern Miss, 2 very solid athletic programs and fan bases, facilities, they've got the whole nine.

I don't know about Tulsa, but with Southern Miss our TV market is very small and unappealing in today's money obsessed climate. We have the solid programs in football, baseball, and now 4 seasons of winning 20 or more games in basketball, but that is far below the important factor of how much money you can make by bringing in a TV market of size. Look at South Florida, obviously they weren't chosen for their history of athletic success, but due to having Tampa and that market with some very wealthy donors. Successful program means very little today. Much like in the 50s in boxing, talent was not a key factor, it was getting the right money behind you, and soon after you saw fights fixed and boxing suffered. Thing about craving lots and lots of money without concerning yourself with the character of the money, usually corruption comes right along and often so corrupt it ruins the whole thing.

About your new conference. Is Navy staying? Who is the 12th? I read some posters saying UMass.

I thought this was about CUSA and not nbe.
My take: The invite came from CUSA to ODU, not the other way. And it is based on 1.Markets 2. Markets 3. Markets. 56. Success or Winning Traditions 89. Program size
If Tulsa goes, I've heard WKY.

You are so right, "Sarge"...But that is a shame to have your geographical location and population held against you, in spite of it all, though, there is a very fertile sports climate at USM, built on sincere enthusiasm, dedication and integrity. Goes without saying, I hope it can continue to thrive and flourish in Conference USA, but if the Big XII were to come calling, no way could I begrudge Southern Miss for seizing the moment.

Most likely would be WKU, NMSU, and as an outlier Ark St.

Those 2 schools and Memphis were all created with the same act of TN Leg. Originally it was West, Middle, and East Tennessee State Normal Schools (Teacher Colleges).

Thanks.
I have read Navy is waffling. Not sure what will go down. I just asked about CUSA because I was curious. I watched GA Southern in the playoffs. Very good team. I also remember the announcers saying that GA Southen was trying to get in the Sunblet or CUSA.
