A couple nuggets...

Quote:The worst team in a "power six" conference is easily Mississippi State. Seriously, would someone please give first-year coach Rick Ray a big hug? I can’t remember a time when a program was this decimated by injuries, suspensions, graduations and transfers. The Bulldogs only have eight active players on their roster. Saturday’s 72-31 loss to Vanderbilt marked Mississippi State’s 12th consecutive defeat. Its 31 points were the second-fewest in Humphrey Coliseum history. It was also the lowest scoring output for MSU in the shot-clock era.

04-jawdrop 31 points for a game?????!!!!!?????

Quote:Stick a fork in Baylor. The Bears are done. Scott Drew’s squad was embarrassed in a 90-76 loss at Oklahoma on Saturday. Or, heck, maybe they didn’t feel embarrassed at all. For the past few weeks, the Bears -- who trailed 47-21 at halftime Saturday -- have hardly seemed like they care. Baylor has now lost six of its past eight games. Drew’s team is 7-7 in league play but only 1-7 against teams in the top five of the Big 12 standings. The Bears aren’t going to make the NCAA tournament, which is inexcusable for a squad that features the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year in Pierre Jackson -- who leads the conference in scoring and assists -- along with future lottery pick Isaiah Austin and one of the nation’s premier 3-point shooters in Brady Heslip. Sure, the Bears lost three players from last year’s Elite Eight squad to the NBA draft. But there are still enough pieces on this roster to have significant success during a somewhat down year for the Big 12.

Anyone still bent out of shape about Scott Drew not being our coach? Preseason B12 POY...lottery pick...and a dead-eye 3-point shooter? That's a lot of talent to be losing like they have.

RE: ESPN's afternoon observations.
Heading into the conference tourney last year...team was 23-8.

Did look really strong though the last 4 games of the season and the 3 tourney games- playing as a team and with no issues.

The 8 seed had more of a mental effect than it should have, and then, after going up 8 in the second half against SLU, when SLU made a comeback and the game got close, the kids got tight- pressure of having to win after feeling disrespected by the seed.

This year's team has already won more games than last year's team finished the regular season with. There will be tight moments...having a true senior, 4 true juniors and a transfer junior, a sophomore and a freshman in the main rotation should make a bigger difference if things get stressful.

Those teams shut those people up by making deep runs in the Dance. The 2012-13 Tigers simply have to do the same. Win these next 7 and then raise bloody hell in the NCAA tournament.

I remember Davis and Rothstein picking Oral Roberts in 2006

I think Davis did not pick Oral Roberts to win, but stated the game was the most likely to produce the first #16 over #1 upset. The Tigers proceeded to beat OR by 16 - the same margin of victory as #1 seeded Duke in their first round game. The Tigers also went further in the Tourney than his beloved Dukies.
