If a move does not happen soon or if it is only to a conference like the SoCon and/or OVC, I think we need to blame the previous athletic administration for their facility development plan.

I will say it until I'm blue in the face. The immediate needs of this school and community weren't for a new softball and/or baseball park or golf practice facility. The only reason to build the soccer fields was because ETSU got kicked out of the SoCon.

The immediate need of the community and school were for a new football stadium and basketball arena.

If those had been planned first, ETSU would still be in the SoCon, there would be renewed momentum and interest in the sports programs, and the non-revenue sports would have benefitted from the trickle down effect of fans checking them out (similar to how SuperFan would go on here and talk about the womens' soccer teams).

Better venues would have meant better teams. Better teams would have meant right now ETSU wouldn't be talking about which one of their former conferences they'd like to return to but rather which major conference they'd like to join.

But, hey. We have are all sports trophy from 2007, "The Greatest Year in the History of ETSU Athletics!"

How can anyone disagree with this? Obviously, we blame the previous administration for the facility development plan, and, obviously, we blame them for the entire debacle they made of ETSU athletics. Stanton and Mullins never saw a bad athletic decision that they didn't like. Of course, that horse's bones are nothing but dust now.

Well, I said it at the time, both on here and in the media, and all I got from some ETSU pom-pom wavers on the boards was grief and how I was wrong.

You know who they are.

No, I don't know the inside history or the personalities involved. But, where are these pom-pom wavers now?

New name for the Big East, then sell the name to the Catholic 7. Meaning?

RE: SoCon?
I haven't ever seen a person on this board that's championed building what got built in the order it was built in except maybe for Slappy while he was part of the cult.
The problem is years ago when C-USA walked the facilities, there were none. In typical old school, do things on the cheap fashion they farted around and halfway built a soccer and softball field using debt service and money they could shift around. Then they scammed the students into a fee for a new garage that they could lump in the cash to re-do tennis again.
Basically, they screwed the pooch as we all know. Badly. Unfortunately, only Dave is gone. Still waiting for Barbie to get canned.

They announced that $81 million capital campaign for athletics in 2004, the "pathway to excellence". Never did understand why thie idiots did that since there was never an actual campaign or any announced funds raised. The only thing Mullins ever did was say, "show me the money". Like you pointed out, they built their little projects mostly from student fees and money that was supposed to be saved from
eliminating football. In a normal university athletic department, the failure to raise a
dime of an $81 million capital campaign would have been a significant
demonstration of gross incompetence resulting in terminations.

It just takes ETSU a little longer to make necessary changes. I have a feeling that will no longer be the case. This football thing demands accountability...failure is not an option.

I know. I've got video of it in a box somewhere in my upstairs. Probably blue tinted, out of focus video with spiked audio and really bad voice tracking. The idea of the campaign was a great idea, the problem is they didn't have anyone to give the money for that stuff.
The order of the facilities was the problem, but it's the hand we're dealt. I say get the track done, and not as part of a football stadium. Maybe share with women's lacrosse, build it, build football and let's roll.

Could ETSU and Kennesaw State soon be replacing App State and Ga Southern in the SoCon?

I'm hoping that we stay away from the SoCon at this point.

I'm not sure how to make a poll on this board but I would really like to see which way posters lean... either towards the OVC or the SoCon.

I think the SoConn would be a good option for Kennesaw State.

They need to win something first. I think they'll end up in the Big South.

The Socon doesn't seem to have many team options out there that would improve their rep. If the Socon would consider VMI then I see no reason not to consider Kennesaw.. they both seem to produce terrible products.

I dont see the future of the Southern as much better than the Big South frankly.
