How does the new tv deal compare to our currrent?

I'm always drinking that stuff! How can you not? I thought that's what Tiger supporters were supposed to do...

I thought it would be more of a comparison of you go to McDonald's regardless but now instead of the Happy Meal, we get the Big Kids Meal.

RE: How does the new tv deal compare to our currrent?
Yes the new deal is terrible.
However, it gives the nBE a chance to show that the deal is terrible.
It can do that by getting a couple of football teams into bowls. It can also do that by getting 3-4 teams into the NCAA tournament.
When the current deal runs out...it could then renew for much more money.
That is what it would take to get more....we have to prove ourselves on the field/courts

Like someone pointed out in the other thread....
Since we are going to have an ESPN contract if we played other teams, like SEC teams with a ESPN contract, those games would most likely be on ESPN as well. Games with teams like Ole Miss, UTk, Ark, etc. would probably be on ESPN. I also wonder if this will lead back to the BE vs SEC games.

New BE TV deal is worth $20M a year from ESPN + $2-4M from CBS, + perhaps some additional income from games sold off to other networks that ESPN doesn't want. Worst case, let's say $22M total per year.
Then it depends on how many teams we wind up with. If 10 teams (no Navy and no adds), that's at least $2.2M per team. At 11 teams, with one being Navy, it will be slightly less (Navy only plays FB). At 12 teams it would be slightly less than $2M, depending on what Navy takes out for the one sport.
Could go up slightly if CBS is $4M and other lesser tier games are sold.
As for comparing to CUSA TV deal, theirs is at $1.2M, but could slide downward some with the new adds.
Plus, you need to look at total average payout per school. The latest projection from all revenue sources for TV deal, NCCA BB credits and football playoff distributions is:
nBE = $7.2M per team per year
nCUSA = $2.5M per team per year
nBE is not $7.2 the CURRENT BE is $7.2 per team. That is with the AQ money from the BCS which is not guaranteed after next season. With the C7 and other teams leaving the BB credits will be reduced in a few years also. Will be an increase but it will be far less than $7.2 per team. Must figure right now Boise will get the group of 5 invite to playoffs and NCAA invites will be in neighborhood of 2-3 teams at most per year in future. My guess would be in the $3.7-$4.5 range MAYBE
WHO CARES? What about the TRAVEL COSTS?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?
Seriously, think of the travel costs, we are DOOMED to huge financial losses due to the increase in travel costs!!!!!!!!!!

RE: How does the new tv deal compare to our currrent?
OK folks, here is a question that I have not read on the board. If the Nbe produces a lot of wins and bowl games and NCAA basketball invites and wins during the first two years or so of the new contract, could the contract be renegotiated with ESPN?

It is somewhat disappointing.
We just need to continue on and hope we get picked up in the Super Conference expansion. We have a market that should eventually become attractive to one of these Super Conferences.

Yes, this horrible deal is soley the fault of failed leadership from our administrators. It has nothing to do with the other institutions or BE administrators.

Not likely. The contract runs through the 2019-20 BB season. There are "look-ins" every couple of years in the contract, but they rarely result in a bump in revenue.
As others said, our best chance at significant money is to move up to one of the major conferences.

RE: How does the new tv deal compare to our currrent?
For the 439th time, the alleged increase in travel costs is negligible.
SMU, Houston, UCF, ECU (2014) and Tulane (2014) are also moving up so we don't compare the schools MEMPHIS is already traveling to.
C-USA travel included UTEP. The BE equivalent is UConn.
C-USA travel included Rice. The BE equivalent is Cincinnati.
People point out USF. The BE office is certainly smart enough to pair USF with UCF as travel partners for women's BB, volleyball, etc. The same applies to SMU and Houston.
Temple is the lone unique addition that will be an extra cost.
The non revenue sports teams will fly to UConn and Temple but charter busses for the rest of the trips. Keep in mind the sites rotate every other year.

RE: How does the new tv deal compare to our currrent?
The nBE is in a good position to compete for the bowl spot reserved for the "non power conferences". I admire Boise St, but they are at a strategic disadvantage due to small population and limited recruiting base.
Fans can help advance our athletic program by buying season tickets, contributing funds as means permit, attending games when possible, and offering supportive statements (at least in public).
