I thought Sidewalk bit the dust like City Stages but maybe w/ RR Park we can bring City Stages back to what it was

City Stages will never succeed with Bonnaroo just up the road. Especially if it were to return in the summer. It needs to be a late fall festival if it wants any hope at succeeding.

Especially when Bonnaroo has no compete contracts for a couple of months before/after for those that appear at it does make it hard to get good entertainment

Which is sad because I'll never go to Bonnaroo but I'd love to go to a downtown festival. They cater to two different audiences. There's room for a festival in Birmingham (just look at Huntsville and Gulf Shores) but you need someone who isn't a crook and doesn't want to make a years' salary running it to pull it off.

The way City Stages was set up - closing downtown city streets, expensive set up /tear down to put it on, and weather varying factors made it a high risk investment. If use of public parks that are not too far apart could be used, it might be a feasible thing to do. Would using the RR park, the new baseball park and the parking lot of the Innovation Depot be sufficient for some scale of what City Stages once was? (The UAB OCS might be included when built) Or how about the land around East Lake Park from 5th Ave. north to 1st Ave. north? How about some of the land at the east end of the airport near the Southern Museum of Flight?

using downtown streets and having it downtown is part of the draw of a downtown music festival. I think railroad park/baseball park + southside area is a good idea for an alternative, as long as you keep it close and in a contiguous area. out by the airport? um, no.
