It's just not in Britton's DNA to think outside the box, to make the conference better. It really isn't.

As positive as I've been about Brit in this thread, I agree with this comment 100%. He does a good job of seeing what he wants to do in within the current framework, but doesn't give changing the framework much thought.

Eh. I don't think that is that big if a deal. I wanted to see MTSU on the schedule for awhile. A team right up te road could be a nice rivalry.

simple really. you are known by the company you keep and I would imagine that memphis sees itself at a higher level than a mtsu.

I think we do, but that doesn't mean that how we perceive ourselves matches up to reality. Middle is at worst our equal in football and now they have a quality hoops program. I am not familiar with the rest their sports programs, but I wouldn't be surprised if those were very competitive as well.

You can add Women's BB and Baseball to the list, JMS.

First we don't know if USM will ever get an invitation and if we do it better be loaded with some solid ironclad guarantees. I really don't see how it would be such a great move. Secondly, don't look for ECU and/or Memphis to reverse course because they have already committed and pride if nothing else will keep them from coming back. I want to give the conferences time to see how it goes and see what happens in 2 or 3 years.

After having read through today's post cycle, I find it interesting that nobody mentioned diluted monies going to 16. This made me smile and is a testament to the intelligence of our posters.

To me, this demonstrates it is possible for the focus to revolve around what is really important and not play into the hands of the serpents that make you believe the market is the only thing that matters.

Since we all know we are in the same situation, how does it not make sense to develop a conference that yields the best field production possible?

It is painfully obvious that one lower tier conference president is going to lose his kush kush job. How can BB or the ECU/MEM university presidents be convinced to do the smart thing by aligning themselves with teams that generate the best field production?

KILL the BE. KILL IT DEAD. UH, SMU, Tulane, UCF...they can go SBC or MWC. I don't care. But KILL the BE.

Nobody cares about the name. Hell, it has been an ongoing joke for some time now. Nobody in the northeast cares about the new adds. Everyone knows Cincy and UCONN are gone. MEM was stoked only because of C7...now they are gone. Nationally, nobody cares about Temple or USF...let them all join with the Wake Forrest and Ga Tech when the ACC crumbles. Force THEM to try to figure out how to survive.

Beat them to the punch.

If ECU and MEM came back, it could only help the process evolve and put us in a position of strength by developing a respectable football/basketball conference.

BB, ECU, and MEM have an opportunity right now. And I dont care one iota about media perception. Their projections have been wrong every time because of their agenda...and that agenda will never change unless we take control.

We couldn't kick out the other four defectors when they were members.

BB now has an opportunity to bring back the ones we need and want.

It's a dog eat dog world.

(Opinion) The schools with big TV markets and most Cusa championships (except USM) are now in NBE. Cusa has alot of new teams with some who have played at a lower level of football or never field a football team. If NBE lose more teams to other bigger conferences NBE will only pick more teams from Cusa or other level conferences. I do not see ECU or Memphis going back to Cusa but I do see more schools such as USM, Tulsa, or any Cusa school who gets the chance moving to NBE or any top 6 conferences (SI). It is not all about monies but exposure and being associated with ESPN. If you read SI article above NBE is rated ahead of MWC .....where is Cusa????

Looks to me that the MWC is stronger than both and we all have the same seat at the table. Let's not overstate the worth of any of us in the grand scheme of things here. The only difference is a small. VERY small amount of TV money. But hey why let that get in the way of delusions of grandure.

Please do not start with this Top 6 crap. The haves and the havenots have been clearly defined and the nBE, CUSA, MWC and so on are not in the Top 5 conferences. Meanwhile, CUSA, MWC, and the nBE all have similar TV deals that are nothing to write home about. From this point on, if any CUSA team leaves for the MWC or nBE it is going to be really hard to justify such a move.

I did want to address one thing in this thread. I dont think most Memphis fans would have an issue with being in a conference with MTSU. I think a LOT of Memphis fans would have an issue with being in a conference with UTSA. Is that fair? Probably not but that would be the reaction for sure.

We'd all look silly and obnoxious right now stating that we were too good to share a football conference with the Blue Raiders. I have felt that way before, but that's long since past. The whole situation where Boots Donnelly was being presented to us as our next FB coach by the BOR turned a ton of people off.
