What was it that they couldn't see. It was obvious that a slew of schools wanted OUT immediately from the Big East. They knew that they would be replaced with cusa schools which weren't getting much from the networks as it was and just because they were changing names didn't mean that they'd get more bucks.

The schools leaving thought that we who for whatever reason didn't get invited or snubbed the invitation were being jealous or in rage over their moving. It is far from that. We didn't want them to move because even the dumbest of us, me included, saw the handwriting on the wall and were looking out for youse. You can't change the image of a volkswagen by putting a Lexus insignia in front. IIWII and believe me it wasn't jealousy that prevailed here. We really wanted those schools to remain because in reality we liked them and now we see that WE were right. But that doesn't change anything unless some semblance of common sense rears its head and there is some sort of deal that would bring back those schools to cusa without penalties. To all who belittled cusa all I can say is we told you so and we'll welcome you like the Prodigal Son. SIGH.

I think it came down to one thing--was realignment basically over for a while? I think the leadership of the schools leaving thought that everyone was set for several years at least. The Big-12 appeared to have decided to stay at 10 and signed a GOR. The ACC seemed happy at 14. The Pac-12 added two and seemed to be unwilling to expand without Texas. The Big-10 was typically the least agressive in realignment and had at that time only added what have been considered "king" schools. They had stayed at 11 for nearly 20 years. When the Big-10 finally did add a 12th team it was Nebraska.

I think the schools that left thought realignment was entering a dormant phase with the major conferences finally settled. I thought the same thing. I figured with Texas locked into a GOR and the PAC-12 geographically locked in place, little was likely to happen until the GOR expired in 13 years. Those that thought that way couldn't have been more wrong. In a stable environment, the Big East move was a decent move since there was basically nowhere for the schools that wanted to leave the Big East to go. That said, in an unstable environment, the the Big East could be decimated. In my mind, that was the fatal miscalculation.

What we have seen so far in realignment was just the warm up. The push is hard on to go from 5 power leagues to just 4. The big 12 seems the strongest to the acc is about to have happen to it what the big had happen.
I guess a year from now everyone will be ape crap crazy to join it thinking its gonna bring the magical 20m a year reward.

MAC,BE,Sun Belt, MW, CUSA......Anyone in this bunch that thinks they are any better than the others is only fooling themselves and living on false ego. Sure, there will be some dollar differences, but in reality, they are all in the same boat.
