The Big East's $10 million figure for the men's basketball season in 2013-14 is based on the seven Catholic schools remaining in the league next season, sources said. If those schools leave the Big East before next year, that figure would be reduced.

ALso interesting is that it leaves them without much programming. Now, I'd prefer the C7 league to have a deal with FOX, but if NBC can help drive the price up, this could be great for our league.

It does demonstrate that the leaks of the past few weeks were very much on target with reality.

ESPN matched the financial aspect, sources said. However, Big East commissioner Mike Aresco must be satisfied ESPN's deal matches NBC Sports Network's offer in all facets. Once that is concluded, the Big East presidents must approve the new deal. They could vote on accepting the deal as early as this weekend, sources said.

ESPN's package includes annually broadcasting 65 football games, 150-plus basketball games, a conference football championship game and the Big East men's basketball tournament on ESPN's family of networks, sources said.

Time to increase that NBC deal, Jack Swabrick. It expires in 2015, they have been talking for a while now.

$10M for the last year of pre-split Big East basketball?

Are you Aresco League guys SURE you don't want us to get you a one-year deal from Fox for real money?

I have to think if they're willing to pay $40M for the C-7 plus Butler, Xavier and 3 others, they'll pay a lot more than $10M for the C7 + Louisville, UConn, Memphis, Cincinatti, Notre Dame and Temple.

I also wonder if the C-7 presidents have the ability to vote on this. Because to quote Dr Evil, "How 'bout NO?"

I also wonder if there are any legal implications to wildly undervaluing 2013-14 Big East basketball to the benefit of the long-term Aresco League contract.

Aren't there some rumors saying that ND is working with ESPN/ABC/ACC Network? It could explain the delay.

This part is key. BE can still reject this offer if ESPN doesn't give them prime time slots like NBC offered.

Is this just ESPN's counteroffer or did the Big East actually sign? If the Big East didn't sign they could just as easily go back to Fox and/or NBC.

If Fox is willing to start the C7 in 2013-14, wouldn't it be better for everyone if the C7 left? If Fox pays the c7 $40 million, the c7 could easily makeup any reduction in the nBe's ESPN deal and everyone would be better off.
